did your heart just stop beating for a second realizing they're real? XD

When I saw what May wrote, I remembered my last visit at parents' house.
I was watching Arashi performances with my 7-yo brother (his fave member is Aiba btw LOL) when he suddenly asked, "Are those people real?" big grin
Of course a kid that age can gets mixed up as the members are in variety shows, dramas, concerts and what not.

But how real are they to you?
A weird question, I know. But if you have seen them live, how did you feel?
And if you haven't, have you ever thought how it would be to actually meet them? (No, don't talk about getting married with a member or so - this thread is not for that, sorry girls LOL)

As for me.. I just realized that I see them very distant as they are entertainers - and from different country.
To me meeting them would be a shock. Or at least I most likely wouldn't remember much about the meeting afterwards.

I never really think about this... well~ I think they're real Eh?
But I never imagine seeing them as other than entertainers...
they're stars... so I just enjoy their shows or concerts from AFAR~

Ohno is an exception though hehe... he is so real to me!
I never meet him in person or anything but his presence is so REAL~
I always think that he's like any normal person, not a celebrity...
the only difference is he appears on tv more than other persons smart2

At times they feel very real too me. Like during interviews when they have such funny sayings.

But, like on tv&perfs. they seem to good to be true/real.

Kind of hard to explain. Good question though, it got me thinking even more ^^

Omg I thought everyone had brought this up in their mind before so it's cool that this brought something up :D

But yeah, this came up in our house when my sister refers to them as "holograms." We'd joke around and she'd say, "Someone that attractive can not be real." and seeing concerts and fan interactions and such - I don't know. It'd be a shock to see them being so.. normal. Like those stories about fans seeing them waiting at the train station, resturants, etc.

Maybe it's a little surreal cause we're so used to seeing them only through out computer and that they exist only for our entertainment with only the personalities seen on TV.

But yeah, like Sungie said, it's really is hard to explain huh?

As Johnny's, they are supposed to be kind of not real, they are supposed to be these perfect, lovable idols and prince charmings. I think that when you see them on stage, they are supposed to look like they live in a completely different world (which nonetheless only exists for us, the fans) than most of us do... At least that's my humble opinion.

To me, the guys are the most real when I get a glimpse of their little imperfections, when I start seeing that they're just people, humans like me and you. That's when I actually get some "reality vibes" from them, when they actually begin to touch something in me...

Does this make sense in any way...? unsure

Well said! clapping That's exactly how I see it too.

I personally like Arashi the best out of the Johnny's because they're so human. They've got fears and anxieties, just like the rest of us. I especially began to feel how "real" they were when I watched a Heyx3 episode where one by one, they pretty much confessed that they really weren't excited about Arashi at first, or even for like Ohno or Nino, who didn't even consider joining Johnny's in the first place.

To make a comparison, I find KAT-TUN to be extremely "unreal". Not to say that it's a bad thing, in fact, it's a wonderful thing as they're all hot and they're every fangirls' wet dream... but it's precisely because they seem to radiate the kind of absolute idol confidence that Arashi doesn't have, that they appear very distant for me.

Great topic. To me ARASHI seems so unreal when I see them performing on stage, TV shows, doramas, & movies. But I know they are real when they do or say things that are baka. When they're in Mago Mago Arashi & Kodomo Bangohan that's where I see them as real people. There are many other shows that I've watched in which I feel like they are so normal, & they don't have an air of celebrity in them. They are such down to earth & humble people. That's why they are my #1 favorite Johnny's.

Mostly in photoshoots, I'm like, "Wow..." and I just simply admire them, just as idols should be admired. But most especially during their variety shows or when they have some sort of silly stories to tell during talks, they definitely don't seem like they're idols. As I tell my sisters when I have something to show them, "Wanna see the guys from Arashi behave like bakas?" Yeah, as you guys have been saying, it's definitely Arashi of all the JE groups whom we get to see most often at ease and seem okay putting aside their idol personas for a while. I'm sure ultimately these guys want to be loved and admired for who they really are, not because of the idol personalities they constantly have to exude. So why not let us know what they're like? It's part of what really drew me to them!

Hopefully I answered sufficiently! *lol*

I like how everyone doesn't really know how to explain their feelings over this yet I think as fans we all understand lol

The power of common interests!

But yes, their imperfections make me think: "They're so normal. Why are they so popular again? Oh, cause they're freakishly good looking."

>yes it does, and i agree.
>although for me, my idol-perception doesn't really disappear, regardless of what they're doing, be it performing for a crowd of 6000 or they're shoveling poo for their show or sth...
>but i think that has something to do with their OWN charisma and their appeal...it's something innate, sth that they can't help but be...
>i always tend to focus on their imperfections (like a misstep during their performance, or something stupid someone said) because that helps me keep my myself from putting them into this pedestal i know they can't live up to. and as a fangirl, it's so easy to do that...just see them as an idol and not as another human being, despite their imperfections.

I think what makes Arashi most real for me is their friendship, and the way they react to their mistakes just like any other people. It's not really the fact that they make mistakes, it's more like "Woops, I made a mistake (laugh)" factor... It shows that they're human whereas a (very stereotypical) perfect movie star/celebrity/idol would be freaking out... Maybe I'm over-judging, but it's that admission and humor that draws me.

Then there’s the unforgettable humor. I fall in love with funny guys (Hence, Oh-chan). Not saying that the others aren't funny (because they’re all hilarious in their own quirky ways), but knowing that they have interests and faults just like any other normal person takes away the godly image. Sure, they're unfairly good-looking, but there are guys out there who are just as good-looking without being on TV.

That makes me think about the whole deal with on-screen and off-screen personalities (Is that allowed in this topic? Eh? ). We don't know who they are outside of the camera, so sometimes I just think "What if it really was just that—a personality designed for show? What if each of the guys are completely different off the set?" Then I reason with myself "They talk about what they do off-set... Like how Arashi pointed out Ohno making clay figures well into the wee hours of the morning" to justify that they're the same, whether on-screen or off. But I agree with everyone else, I love their variety shows because they’re not afraid to show their dorkiness to the world, and I love them for that.

Am I making any sense? I ranted a bit much here, and I think I’m starting to confuse myself >.<

i've thought about that sometimes too...like how much of it is johnny's-generated? like KitKaos wrote, they are supposed to look a bit unreal and kind of prince charming-like, despite their own quirks...
but the thing is, though, they are entertainers. so as long as they're entertaining me, that little 'seed of doubt' is kind of brushed to side.

I've thought about that as well, are we really seeing what they're like?
Like with Sho. Sometimes it's hard to believe that he comes from a super family, high education bakground and and idol as well, WHEN HE'S SCARED S***LESS TO DROP DOWN A 10M WATERFALL. And it's all on camera and broadcasted as well. I mean, it's not really the most desirable image for an idol is it? SCAREDLY CAT? I showed my bro and was saying that Sho is highly educated blah blah blah but a scaredy cat, and my bro said "COZ THEY TELL HIM TO ACT LIKE THAT RIGHT?"
But then again, it's those sort of "human" moments that make them even more endearing than ever. But at the same time, that sort of thing is entertaining us, so is it real or an act? confused

So, I think it'd be completely surreal if I ever met any of the guys, but they are already 'real' to me because of the personalities we see on tv, whether company derived or real.

When I got interested in Arashi, I've always felt that they were real to me. It hasn't been a year since I've heard about them yet, but I've tried following them from the beginning (somewhat). Love the acting and singing, but I'd also like to know the real them (even though that's not what celebrities should reveal or emphasize).

One of the reasons why I stuck with them was because they debuted in Hawaii. I went to the same places they went to, and honestly, I felt some pride. When they were here a few years ago, the governor or some sort of political position named March 30th "Arashi Day", and I've never heard of it until last year!

Their personalities really got me hooked on them (most thanks to A no Arashi). I just love how they get along, as if they really don't need a script or a scenario.
Of course I love their looks and their music, but I love the fact that they aren't super insanely rich and famous. Humble feels closer to home and that's what I like ^^ Though MatsuJun is how I found them, he's most likely my number 5 favorite of the group ^^' He's too gorgeous and flamboyant for my taste shutup

-->Oh, by the way, just yesterday, I was standing in a spot where someone had been! whistle

Here's a picture of the picture :P

Guess who~!

It's Jun! Not sure when he was there, though. I didn't notice that it was him at first. I had to read a little bit of the Japanese to get it. 嵐 caught my eye XD I wonder if I freaked out the other customers and Japanese tourists when I was jumping and squealing like a little girl XD

I don't really understand most of the kanji. I have the gist that it's just saying Arashi's Matsumoto Jun visited Sedona.

I hope they come back. Now that I know them, I'll appreciate their visits more (in a non-stalker way) smile

well, i know that arashi is realy as in they are all REAL people with emotions and all but like all other celebrities, i know there is a limit to all these realness that we fans get to see from our own point of view..so we cannot really judge what we see from our point and thus from here estimate their realness based on what we know which is ultimately based on what other people know and what they want to reveal to us and make us believe...so even though i really want to think that arashi is real there is always a certain uncertainty about the entire group..but i guess it is as real as it gets..so i guess i will just take them as they are real or not..as they now pose as a very real group with fantastic friendships and real emotions that we can all learn from,...as long as they stand for things that we all want to believe in i think they are real enough for me...
but i guess if i really were to meet them one day..i might really think that the whole thing was really unreal..hahah..
