HJSplit

Joining

1. Make sure all the parts of the file are in the same folder and have the same name except for the last three numbers.
---> e.g. File1.avi.001, File1.avi.002 and File1.avi.003.
2. The files should be format 001-file, 002-file etc.
---> Best way to make sure that the format comes right is to save files as "All Files" when downloading.
3. All the files except the last one must be the same size.
---> In case you have e.g. four parts and part 2 ain't the same size as first and third, output file won't be complete.
4. Open HJSplit.
5. Click "Join".

6. Search the first part of the file you wanna join by clicking "Input File".
--- > HJSplit will automatically find other parts when they are in the same folder. Output file will come to the same folder.
7. Click "Start".
## Do not delete parts until you have checked that the output file is complete.
---> It's not complete if the player starts re-indexing when you try to play it.

Splitting

1. Open HJSplit.
2. Click "Split".

3. Click "Input File" and search the file you want to split - it can be any file, not just media.
4. Choose the file size for the parts.
---> Note that 1MB is 1024KB not 1000KB. Thus e.g. 700MB is 700*1024KB=716800KB.
5. Click "Start". The files will come to the same folder as the input file.

Ripping audio from video

Note:
## I recommend VirtualDubMod + Audacity if you wish to not buy any 'video to audio' converters.

1. Open the video in VirtualDubMod.
---> That is, if VDM supports the video format =P
2. Streams -> Stream list
3. Select the audio stream and click "Save WAV".
4. When VDM is done saving the WAV, you can convert it to other format (mp3, ogg... whatever) e.g. with Audacity or some converter.

Encoding with GordianKnot

Few notes:
- If you wish the output file to be certain size, you get better result when you use multipass.
- DivX is sucker.
- In these guides I assume you know a bit about encoders and codecs. In case you don't know, visit e.g. Doom9.
- I also assume that your XviD and x264 codec settings are ok (GordianKnot --> Options).

1. Open a file you want to encode.
---> With GK you can encode files that are in avi- or d2v-format.
2. Choose codec you want to use for encoding.
---> Note that x264 is not supported in standalone DVD-players. Also encoding with it takes quite a longer.
---> You need to have the codecs installed before you can use them. Most codec-packs include XviD but not x264.
3. Check that this matches the input file.
4. Choose the filesize of output file. With multipass you can get quite close to the result. Just make sure the "Bits/(Pixel*Frame)" (at the bottom) box is not filled yellow.
5. If the output file is e.g. 1400MB, you can choose Gordian Knot to split the file.

6. If you don't know encoding well, ignore next few pages and go to "Encoder".
7. Add the job by clicking "Add". A new window will pop up.

8. Search the input file here. Ignore next two.
9. Here are settings that are gonna be used + info of the file.
10. In case the audio is in different file, click here and search the audio file.
11. You can edit the codec settings.
12. When everything is fine, click "Add Job to Encoding Queue".
13. After that you will get a message asking if you want to start encoding. In case you wish, click "Yes". If you wanna add more jobs to queue, click "No".
14. Info of coming tasks will come here.
15. What has been done will come here.
16. If you want GordianKnot to shut down Windows when job is done, check the box next "View Log"-button.

VirtualDubMod - Hardsubbing
- Also adding logo to video and encoding.

1. Open VirtualDubMod
2. Open a video from File - Open video file.

3. Adding subtitles, go to Video - Filters and click Add.
4. To be able to add subtitles you need to have a filter, subtitler or textsub for example.
4.1. In case there isn't right filter(s) in the list, download it and then click Load and search it. Or move the filter to plugins folder in VirtualDubMod folder, and restart VDM --> filters will be automatically loaded every time VDM is started.
5. Select the filter and click OK.
---> Subtitler and TextSub filters are different as well as the windows. I recommend to use TextSub, I like it better.

6. (TextSub) A new window will pop up. Search the subtitles (styled or not - .ssa, .srt, .ass.. ). Pay attention to Fps. It needs to match the video (see the preferences of the video). Most files are 29.970fps. When you're done click "Open" so that you're back to previous window.
7. If your subtitles aren't styled, you may wanna style them a bit. Click Styles.

7.1. Choose where in the file subs should appear. Bottom center is the usual place. As for margins, I recommend to add at least 12 to left and right, and 12-15 to bottom.
7.2. For Font choose something that is easy to read. Avoid round fonts. Also, using bold font is highly recommended. Good "normal" fonts are e.g. Arial, Trebuchet MS and Book Antiqua. Font size can be big. Depending on a font 18-30 is ok. In general max. two rows of text at time is best.
7.3. Primary is the main color for the subs, secondary is a color for subs if they are overlapping. Outline is obviously the outline color for the subs, and Back is the color of shadow.
7.4. Choose Outline + shadow, as Opaque box means the font will be in box, which color is "outline". In my case I would have violet font in white box.
7.5. If you don't want shadow or outline color, add "0". Sometimes leaving shadow color is ok, but not using outline color is torturing the viewers. 2 for both boxes is good. When done with this window, click OK till you are back to main VDM window, unless you wanna add more filters.

8. (Subtitler) A new window will pop up. Search the subtitles (.ssa). Choose word wrapping mode. Then click OK till you are back to main VDM window, unless you wanna add more filters.

9. Adding a logo, go to Video - Filters and click Add.
10. Choose "logo" and OK.
11. Logo can be in bmp or tga format. If you wish to get the logo the same way STORMY team sub has, make a logo where areas that are supposed to become transparent are black and visible parts are white.
More info about adding a logo:
Only registered users can see links on this forum!
Register or Login on forum!

12. Check all three boxes and choose the same logo to both boxes.
13. Change opacity, 100% ain't nice. 30-60% is fine.
14. Choose the place for logo with justification buttons and x & y offsets. You can check the result by clicking "Show preview". When done click OK till you are back to main VDM window.

15. Time to save the file. File - Save as. If you don't wish to run the encoding now but later, when you for example have few jobs to do, check "Don't run this job now..". It will be added to job control (File - Job control).

16. Video mode needs to be Full processing mode. Change compression.
17. Choose the compression you want to use. I recommend ffdshow Video Codec. Whichever you choose, check the settings of it by clicking Configure. When you are done, go back to save as window and click Save. VDM will start the job.

18. If you chose ffdshow you have bunch of options smile
# First encoder. I use XviD and H.264 most.
# Then FOURCC. If you don't know it just leave it as it is.
# And third, mode.
### One pass - quality means you can choose the quality percent. But the bigger then percent the bigger the output file.
### If you wish to get a file of certain size, choose two passes - 2nd pass int. Just remember, 1MB is 1024KB - not 1000KB. Running 2+ passes is better than just one pass encoding.
### There are other options as well, depending on a encoder of course, but I'm too lazy to explain. Just try =P

How to play files encoded with x264

Notes:
- Some computers, mainly older, cannot handle x264. If the files have slow playback, they stop constantly or your computer crashes it means your comp is running out of RAM. x264 requires quite a lot of RAM. All that can be done is either getting new display card or computer. Read more from:

1. Easiest way is to install VLC Player. The player includes the codec.

OR

1. Intall the codec:

2. It'll be easiest if you take VfW Installer (and yes, you only need to take one of them).
3. And it'll be even more easier if you simply take ffdshow pack so you have all the codecs at once.
4. If you install a new codec pack, remove the old one first.
5. After installing you should be able to play x264-files with pretty much any player (BSPlayer, Media Player Classic..)

How to join two or more avi files

Delta150 wrote:
There are two sections for Pikanchi Double... I was able to join them with the HJ but there are still two parts and I still can't watch the subs for the second part. How can I get the subs on both videos?

ryuxeen wrote:
i already download pikanchi life is hard dakara happy... its said that the sub is include both video... i tried to join with hj split... but i got confused... how am i gonna to use sub for video 2... any idea..??

Name them like this (for example): Pikanchi Double 001.avi and Pikanchi Double 002.avi. If you have more than two files just continue naming the same way (Pikanchi Double 003.avi, Pikanchi Double 004.avi etc).

Then open the first video in VirtualDubMod. After that go to File -> Append segment and search the second file. You won't see anything happen yet.

After that (even if you have more than 2 files) go to File -> Save as. Write some filename, like Pikanchi Double complete and for Video mode choose Direct stream copy.

VDM will now join the files.

Joining is possible only when the files have same encoder, video & audio bit rate + resolution.

HJSplit won't work with those files because they are seperate files, not split files. The only way I know to join them is with VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod.

1. Download VirtualDub from their site (

). Click the VirtualDub.exe file to open it.
2. Click "file" and "open video file" and go to the folder that has the two movie parts. Click on the first part.

5. Click "file", "Save as avi", and save it to the location you want.

6. You should see this happening

The result will be one file that the subtitles will work with.
