Good point about News not having enough experience hosting a show. But the members have radio shows and they're quite good on them. KATTUN didnt have any experience either when they got the spot a few years ago. For that matter, why wasnt K8's name in the hat? They're all old enough, and I bet if we unleash them on Japan, they'd have really good community segments!

That's true too. I have no idea why K8 wasn't considered for the position. They could certainly hold their own in a show like this. For KAT-TUN, I guess it was because they had just debuted and were extremely popular at the time that they were chosen. As for NEWS, being good on a radio show doesn't automatically mean they'd be good on live TV. I spoke with another NEWS fan on livejournal about this and the person brought up an interesting point: that because Yamapi and Ryo, who are the sempai in the group, are there, maybe it makes the other 3 (Tegoshi/Shige/Massu) hold back a little and since Ryo and Yamapi don't speak much to begin with, it puts the group at a kind of standstill. Lately, they've been better about speaking up (especially Shige), but honestly, I think we'd still get some awkward silences there. I haven't seen much of the time KAT-TUN hosted 24Hr TV so I can't really say much about how they were on the show. Does anyone happen to have a link for it?

Anyway - back to Arashi. I'm amazed at how popular they are NOW!

I haven't been an Arashi fan long (about 5 months only, actually) but my impression was that they slowly started REALLY rising in popularity when Jun took on Domyoji's role in Hanadan (many fans also seemed to have been Jun-baited into Arashi through watching Hanadan) so I'm guessing that's where it all began. And then 2006 was a good year with their Asia tour which just continued into 2007 and finally exploded this year. Either way, I'm glad they're getting so much recognition now because they work so hard and they love theirs fans so much that to see all their efforts pay off is just awesome.[/quote]

KAT-TUN was the host last year for the 24Hour TV and frankly, I wasn't interested in seeing them in action at all~~ *ducks bricks by KAT-TUN fans* Don't get me wrong, I was a KAT-TUN fan till I watched MMA. *moment of bliss*

Anyway, Arashi as the main personality of 24Hour TV again is just incredible. I love them so much and I even cried when Aiba read his letter. They're such motivators. I'll be looking forward to some more of Arashi greatness in this year~~ I'm so glad I became an Arashi fan~~ Wohoo!

KAT-TUN hosted back in 2006 and they were not bad. Individual members had some very nice segments (especially Koki and Jin), and if I remember right, Pi made a guest appearance and sang Seishun Amigo with Kame. What hurt KT that year I think, was that Jin and Kame had spent most of 2006 not getting along and it was painfully obvious on the show that 2 dominant members in the group were not talking.

But hey, T&T claim to get along just fine and THEY were boring as all hell last year! whistle

Im not doubting that Arashi will be brilliant. I just feel like with GnA, MMA and their many interactive bangumis, Ive already seen too much of Arashi helping the community. I want to see Ryo chan with screaming babies! Or Koyama with little old ladies! Not because I prefer News, I just think they will be...different.

I think for a lot of older fans, it was Gokusen and Sawada Shin that got us into Arashi, rather than Hanadan. I wonder how many went through the same sense of disappointment and disillusionment after 5x5?

As for 24hrTV - I hope Ohno does another dancing segment! I wonder if his previous group of hearing impaired dancers will make a guest appearance? That would be really cool!

The only clips I've seen of the year KAT-TUN hosted 24Hr TV were Jin's letter and a bit of the part where Jin and Nakamaru were helping some disabled kids dance. All I really remember was feeling a bit disappointed that the others didn't react much to Jin's letter. Maybe Aiba's letter had too much of an impact on me but I don't know, I guess I just expected a little too much from KAT-TUN. Which brings me back to a question I asked a while back: is the letter a customary 24Hr TV thing or did Aiba just go and write it on his own and it kinda continued into tradition from there?

For me, I never get tired of watching Arashi helping the community but I get what you mean. It'd be nice to see NEWS get a chance to go out and do stuff like that too. I have a feeling that if they had done it, Massu probably would've ended up teaching kids to dance. XD But there's always next year for NEWS.

I dont know if every group does a letter, but the letter segment has existed for years - Tsuyo did it when KinKi Kids hosted back in 1997! That was a nice letter too. But the really emotional part of that year was Tokio's Gussan doing the marathon, and all of Tokio supporting him by running part of the leg with him. EVERYONE was crying at the end!

As for KT, the reason the members didnt react to Jin's letter was because it wasnt a very good letter! unsure Jin was in his sulky/sullen/brooding phase in 2006 and his letter was shallow and impersonal. (Along the lines of "I didnt know anyone on the set of Gokusen2, so I was glad that Kame was there.") I dont think any of the KT members really liked each other much that year, so there just wasnt a lot of warmth all round.

But Koki's segment with the little boy who had a deformity, was very sweet, and both Koki and the boy made a re-appearance the following year, sort of like a followup, which I enjoyed very much. Jin taught some kids (autistic, I think. I cant remember) to dance. And I liked the bit where he told one boy "it's ok to mess up sometimes. I mess up ALL the time!" smile

^ second to that

KT hosting the show was quite nice, and eventhough Jin's letter doesn't have the same effect as aiba's, but still, they have some effects for that. really love Koki's segment thought

Arashi is hosting it again!! can't wait. hope they got missions , coz really love to watch them fulfilling other people's dream...

can't wait!!

I haven't watched the 24hr TV with KAT-TUN. ^^

I did watch that clip with Aiba-baby's letter. Is it a 24hr TV thing to write letters? :3

I wish I would be able to watch 24hrTV this year! I have a feeling it would be really sweet, full of Arashi-ai! <3

If there's a letter this time, I'm going to put my money on MatsuJun, just based on the birthday bit, and it just making sense.

BUT, we do have to consider the fact that there's a huge Ohno Boom right now (haha, 2008: Year of the Ohno, based on the Arashi zodiac...?), even based on google trends data (he had a huge spike in the beginning of the year...). So maybe it really WILL be Ohno. ...Is this wishful thinking? ...Probably.

...We can dream at least. T__T

I love the fact that Arashi's insane spike in popularity this year coincides with Ohno's spike in popularity. XD Truly, he really is the leader of Arashi!

It sounds really interesting! In my country, we also have these kind of programs, and they are great. So, with Arashi in 24TV, it's going to be brilliant! Can't wait to see that! clapping

About the letter, I've got some theories:
- I don't think Aiba writes another one.
- That day is going to be Matsujun's birthday, so it'd make it a great opportunity for him to be the one who writes it.
- I don't know why, but I've also thought about Sakurai. Because of his broadcasting the Olympics, they had to release the new album and make the tour concerts sooner, so it's also a good 'excuse' to say sorry and thanks to the rest of the members... Anyway, we just have to wait for some more weeks to know for sure!
