Chapter 31
Ai stared at Aiba with a totally blank expression. She was wondering if she had heard him wrong or he was playing some game... but the way he gazed at her was so serious that Ai began to get nervous.
She dropped his hands and looked to the ground quickly.
"Are- are you stupid!? Did you even think what you were asking me!?" Ai asked in a strangely high pitched voice. Aiba, very taken a back by Ai's behaviour, gaped at her.
"No, I'm not stupid! And... I did think about it..."
"For how long!?"
"...a month." Aiba mumbled, feeling his face burn in embarrassment. Ai fell against the bridge railing, staring down at her feet. Aiba rushed towards her and grabbed her limp hands tightly, trying to fix the worsening situation.
"I thought it's what you would like! Akina-san-"
"Akina!?"
"She said we could have our own place and I'd come home from work to see you and Minoru-kun making cookies-"
"M- Minoru-kun!? Cookies!? Who the hell is Minoru-kun!?"
"Oh, you don't like that name? Eh, I made a list-"
"MASAKI!" Ai shouted, making Aiba and several other people on the bridge stop and stare at her. Aiba swallowed nervously and raised his brows at Ai worriedly, waiting for her to speak. Ai switched her glance to Aiba's big, watery puppy eyes and let out a long and shaky sigh.
"Gomen... but Masaki... just slow down for a moment, okay? I'm feeling a little dizzy..." Ai mumbled, grabbing onto Aiba's arms to steady herself.
"Ah! Are you okay?" Aiba asked quickly, wrapping his arm around Ai and holding her up. She nodded and took several deep breaths.
"...you haven't even thought about the other stuff, have you?" Ai asked quietly, looking at the river below.
"What stuff?" Aiba asked curiously.
"You're an Idol, remember? You probably didn't even tell your manager or Johnny-san or whoever you guys go to..." Ai mumbled bitterly. Aiba remained silent, suddenly remembering that he was indeed an Idol and no one but Arashi knew about this plan.
"It's okay, Ai-chan! I'm sure I can talk to them." Aiba said with a no worries grin. Ai laid her head on the cool metal railing and grumbled.
"We haven't even been together for more than a month! How-" Ai was interrupted by Aiba as he covered her mouth with his hand. Ai glared at him silently, not needing words to tell him what she thought. But Aiba simply smiled and bit his bottom lip.
"I think we have an advantage, Ai-chan. Being friends for so long... I think we know each other better than most couples ever will, ne? And I think... we've loved each other longer than we've known." Aiba said softly, slowly removing his hand from Ai's mouth.
Her lip began to tremble and Ai quickly sniffed back tears.
"Of course you're right. It's all true..." Ai mumbled through tears. She pulled away from Aiba and started to walk in slow circles, obviously trying to calm herself.
"You're not kidding, are you?" Ai snapped in annoyance. Aiba shook his head swiftly and continued to watch Ai in confusion.
"Can we even live in the same house, Masaki? Because in all honesty... you really can be irritating as all hell." Ai said in a strange sweet tone with an awkward smile. Not sure whether to be offended or captivated by Ai's smile, Aiba remained frozen for several moments.
"We've spent days at each other's houses-"
"This isn't a sleep over, Masaki-chan!" Ai exclaimed, still holding the attention of passerby's. Aiba nodded and walked slowly over to Ai.
"Ai-chan. Sometimes... you're mean and obnoxious..."
"...what?"
"And sometimes you can be violent-"
Aiba stopped quickly as Ai's glare bored into his eyes and the twitching of the beginning of a snarl played on her face.
"Uh... remember when you said I wouldn't want to be with you because we'd get into arguments? And it would be awkward to tell our families?"
Aiba took the clenching of Ai's fists as a "yes".
"I... I wanted all that. I want you to get mad at me when I do something stupid! And we don't have to worry about our parents! They already know and we're always uncomfortable around them anyway! Right?" Aiba said gently, running his hand softly down Ai's head.
Ai remained silent, but she lost all her tension and tears welled up in her eyes and ran down her cheeks. She looked up at Aiba, who also had become emotional, and quickly wiped her eyes.
"I... I can't..." Ai whispered, trying to tell Aiba her answer but getting choked up on her tears. Aiba's face fell at what he thought was Ai's answer, and withdrew his hand from Ai. He dropped his eyes to the ground and sighed.
"It's okay, Ai-chan... I know it was-"
"Shut up for a second, Masaki!" Ai sobbed loudly, frowning at Aiba. Aiba looked up to Ai, scowling through her tears. For a long minute, Ai thought to herself of all the reasons why she didn't want to be with Aiba... but the thought of it was almost unbearable.
There wasn't any reason...
No reason at all that stopped Ai from rejecting him. Ai closed her eyes and took another breath.
"I guess... I guess I'll have to learn to bake cookies." Ai said clearly, a smile breaking through her sobs. Aiba took a moment to let the answer sink in and finally he understood.
"EH!? Seriously, Ai-chan!?" Aiba nearly yelled. Ai jumped towards Aiba and wrapped her arms around his waist, giggling happily. Aiba was still too shocked that his plan actually worked, that he just stood frozen in his spot.
"I don't even know how to bake, baka!" Ai cried into Aiba's chest. Aiba started to laugh and finally hugged Ai tightly, kissing her all over her face. Aiba bent his head towards Ai and rested his forehead against hers.
"We might be late for dinner..." Aiba said softly. Ai scowled at him and wiggled her way out of his arms, walking quickly towards the way they came.
"Matte! Ai-chan, I didn't mean to spoil the mood!" Aiba whined as he trotted after Ai. He finally caught her hand and Ai turned around, crossing her arms.
"Do you really like the name Minoru, Masaki-chan?" Ai asked seriously. Slightly confused, Aiba scratched his head and thought for a moment.
"Eh, I do... but if-"
"Good, because we'll need to use it in about nine months." Ai said with a businesslike tone and then continued down the sidewalk, leaving Aiba completely dumbfounded.
Aiba couldn't quite figure out what Ai was talking about since his brain was overloaded with happiness from her acceptance, but slowly, it began to make sense. He stared after Ai, his eyes growing as wide as possible and his mouth forming into the biggest and purest smile in the world.
"AI-CHAN! CHOTTO MATTE!"

"I'll give them five more minutes to show up. If not, then we leave anyway." Jun said impatiently, after glaring at his watch for the hundredth time. Ohno groaned and leaned against the railing, rubbing his rumbling stomach. Nino paced around the dock, obviously bored out of his mind, and Sho looked around at all the high class passengers waiting in line as they loaded the boat.
"Finally! Took them long enough!" Nino exclaimed as he spotted the glowing, giggling couple walking down the sidewalk hand in hand. Sho grinned happily and laughed.
"It looks like Aiba-chan's plan worked!" Ai was the first to meet Sho and fling her arms around his neck happily as Aiba shouted they were engaged over and over and louder each time.
"Okay! Let's go celebrate on the boat before they give our seat away!" Jun said loudly and sarcastically, pushing the bubbling group onto the dinner boat.
Five wine glasses and a glass of water were in the air as Sho made a last minute toast, congratulating the newly engaged couple.
"Kampai!" the six said loudly and happily, clinking their glasses softly against each other. But just as their glass touched their lips, Aiba stopped everyone to add something else. He wiggled excitedly in his chair, on the bursting point of keeping in the news.
"Minna! I'm pregnant!" Aiba exclaimed joyfully, grinning ear to ear at everyone at the table. Ai choked back her laughter at Aiba's mistake as Arashi gave Aiba looks of pure confusion.
"Aiba-chan... I don't think that can happen..." Ohno said slowly, looking over at Nino for reassurance. Nino hid his face in his palm and Jun and Sho stared at Aiba, waiting for him to realize what he said.
"...no, not me! Ai-chan!" Aiba giggled loudly, planting a somewhat sloppy and wet kiss on Ai's cheek.
"Uhh... hai... that's the situation..." Ai mumbled as she wiped her cheek with the back of her hand. As Arashi took in the news with an explosion of cheers, Aiba was finally reduced to tears. Ai laughed softly as she rubbed his back comfortingly.
"Masaki-chan... you haven't changed at all..." Ai said adoringly, kissing the top of his head as Aiba hid his face in his arms on the table.
"We've been explaining a lot of things for Aiba, lately." Jun mumbled to Sho next to him as they watched Ai and Ohno try and get Aiba to stop his tears. Sho smiled widely and nodded in agreement.
"Yeah... we're going to get an earful after he announces his surprise engagement... and the arrival of a child." Sho said quietly, sipping his drink slowly.
"Can't help but to feel sorry for Ai-chan. She's going to have to raise both of them." Nino scoffed through a mouthful of food.
"Oi! Don't think you're going to get out of babysitting!" Ai exclaimed from across the table. Nino and Jun both choked and sputtered on their drinks.
"You can't just assume I'll do it!" Nino said angrily.
"What about Ohno and Sho? They're better at it anyway!" Jun said quickly, desperately trying to talk his way out of it. Sho and Ohno exchanged nervous glances and then shook their heads.
"Aw! Why not!? We could revive A no Arashi! We can pass it down, ne?" Aiba chimed in after finally drying his tears. Nino and Jun both growled in disapproval while Sho and Ohno both started laughing.
"I thought we were done with that!"
"Eh? I thought everyone liked it! Weren't my experiments worthwhile!?"
"Worthwhile!? They were pointless!"
"I got to taste some stuff that I didn't know was tasty..."
"Come on! I still have more ideas!"
Ai sat back in silence, eating her food slowly and enjoying every bit of Arashi's complaining and whining. She smiled brightly to herself at Aiba's absolutely ecstatic face as he talked and laughed with his bandmates.

During the three day trip to Paris, most of the group's time was spent with Ohno and at the Louvre. As Ohno darted around the huge museum, trying to see the whole building before their trip ended, Nino was trying his best to get even just a second of attention.
"Where'd he go now!? He better not have run off with some painter or something!" Nino growled loudly as the group continued their tour and search for Ohno.
"You're so possessive, Nino-chan." Ai said quietly as she and Aiba passed him to look at some paintings.
"Nino-chan?" Sho laughed from behind them.
"It fits him." Jun replied, patting Nino on the head. Swiping his hand away, Nino stalked off down the hall and around the corner just as Ohno appeared with a dazed and completely peaceful expression.
"Where've you been!?" Nino's voice echoed off the walls and turning heads of the tourists. As the rest of the group watched the panicked Ohno try to desperately calm Nino's shouting, Ai and Aiba managed to slip out into the gardens.
"Oh, remember this spot!? Ai-chan, this where I told you not to marry Yukio!" Aiba said happily, trotting out into the sunny grass. Ai smiled and followed behind him slowly.
"I'm glad I finally listened." Ai said softly, sitting on a nearby bench, shortly joined by Aiba. He placed his arm around Ai's shoulders, leaned his head back and sighed.
"Ah... I have to tell everyone the news..." Aiba mumbled. Ai played with his hair absentmindedly and stared up at the cloudless blue sky.
"I wonder how our parents will take this..." Ai wondered out loud.
"I forgot about them! Ah! What's your father gonna think!?" Aiba started to panic but Ai grabbed his hand and pulled him back down on the bench.
"We'll be fine, okay? My family is the least of your worries." Ai said, quickly kissing Aiba before standing up. She held out her hand to Aiba and smiled. Aiba grinned and nodded and took Ai's hand in his.

Chapter 32
Ai paced the quiet apartment nervously, chewing on her nails and checking her phone for the time. With an anxious sigh, Ai carefully sat in the entranceway, staring at the door. She looked at her simple silver ring and hoped everything went as smoothly as they both hoped.
A few minutes later, the door unlocked with a click and Ai rushed in from the kitchen and saw Aiba brushing off snow from himself. She wrung her hands together nervously and waited to see Aiba's face. Finally, Aiba turned around and they both stared speechlessly at each other.
"So? Was it okay?" Ai asked quietly. Aiba walked towards Ai and wrapped his arms around her.
"They... they're not going to allow it..." Aiba mumbled into Ai's shoulder. Ai looked at Aiba, not expecting this horrible news.
"No! They have to! You already got my parents' permission! If I have to, I'll go down there and kick their a** right now!" Ai yelled angrily, pushing past Aiba to get to the door. Knowing that Ai would definitely stay true to her word, Aiba caught her again.
"Ai-chan, just kidding." Aiba giggled.
"You! Don't ever do that again! Baka!" Ai shouted, pushing Aiba away from her roughly and storming down the hall. Aiba rushed after her and grabbed her waist, turning her around for a big hug.
"At first they weren't going to let me! But Sho-kun and everyone helped me to persuade them!" Aiba exclaimed, squeezing Ai tightly.
"Masaki! Not so tight!" Ai whimpered, slightly muffled into Aiba's coat. Aiba quickly let go of Ai and started to look her over for injuries.
"Ah! I forgot! Are you okay!?" Aiba asked worriedly.
"Yeah... ah, I'm just glad everything went smoothly..." Ai said in relief and grabbed Aiba's hand, pulling him into the kitchen were a plate of strange looking things were waiting.
"I made these today... hopefully they aren't too bad." Ai said slowly, sitting down across from Aiba and pushing the plate towards him.
"What are they?" Aiba asked quietly, looking closely at the food. Ai pouted slightly and crossed her arms.
"Cookies!"
"Cookies!? Eh... are they supposed to have that colour?"
Aiba looked up to Ai glaring at him and quickly forced a smile to cover his unwillingness to try the cookies. Trying to stall for time, Aiba picked through the pile for the "perfect cookie" and finally settling on one, he laughed nervously under Ai's glare.
"Itadakimasu..." he said quietly, raising the cookie slowly to his mouth and taking a bite.
Ai watched his face closely, knowing Aiba would try his best to cover his disapproval of the cookie. After several silent and crunchy moments, Aiba swallowed his bite, his expression like he just swallowed something bitter.
"Ah... Ai-chan... that was..." Aiba tried to think of something to describe it... but there were no words. Ai dropped her head on the table and sighed.
"I knew it! I could never get it right!" she cried. Aiba quickly crawled over to her and hugged the distressed Ai.
"No! They were... good! I like crunchy... cookies." Aiba said in a very cheerful, yet strained tone. Ai frowned up at him and wiggled from his hug.
"Baka, they taste horrible." Ai mumbled. Aiba couldn't bring himself to say they didn't, so he remained silent. Ai stood up, bringing the plate of cookies with her into the kitchen and dumped them in the trash.
"I guess I'll visit Akina and ask her to help me..." Ai sighed as she joined Aiba at the table again. Aiba nodded and scooted closer to Ai.
"Ai-chan... how's Minoru-kun?"
Ai laughed quietly and stretched a little.
"What if it's not a boy? What are you going to do then?" Ai asked Aiba curiously.
"...can't we still call it Minoru?" Aiba asked after a few moments.
"Masaki..." Ai groaned quietly.

"A small wedding?" Akina said as Ai was mixing the cookie dough.
"Yeah... it's the best way to go, right? Probably next month... before I'm too fat to fit in the dress." Ai grumbled. Akina smacked her sister and grabbed the bowl from her hands.
"You're not getting fat! It's the baby growing!" Akina said with a scowl. Ai rolled her eyes and leaned against the counter, watching Akina put the cookies on the tray gently.
"Masaki is late... aren't they supposed to be here already?" Ai asked curiously, glancing at the clock. Akina proceeded to clean up the counter, not entirely worried about the two.
"He's fine... Taiyou-kun is with him." Akina said with a smile.
"Even so... Masaki-chan worries me sometimes..." Ai said quietly, following Akina to the dinner table.
"Why's that?"
"Because... because... he does things! Even back when we were little, he'd always do stuff and I'd find out about it later!" Ai said in frustration. Akina smirked at her sister and then turned back to the newspaper.
"You just want total control over him, don't you?"
"Eh? No! That's not-"
"Mama! Look what Masaki-kun found!"
Taiyou's voice called excitedly from the hallway. Akina gave Ai a weary glance and Ai hid her face in her hands.
"We're in the kitchen, Taiyou-kun." Akina called, standing up from the table.
Taiyou and Aiba came walking around the corner, hands behind their backs and big smiles on their faces. Akina gave a small, nervous laugh.
"So... what is it?"
Taiyou and Aiba looked to each other and on the count of three, pulled from behind their backs, two tiny kittens.
"Ai-chan! Aren't they cute!? Can we keep one!?" Masaki shouted, cuddling the confused kitten.
"Mama! This one is so soft! And they have no home!" Taiyou chirped, handing his startled mother the kitten. Ai stood next to Akina and smirked in a "I-told-you-so" way.
"Ah... Taiyou... let's wait for papa, okay? Uh... go keep them in the spare room for now..." Akina said calmly, handing the other kitten to Taiyou.
"Ai-chan! Can we!?" Masaki asked again, grabbing Ai's hands. Ai rapidly shook her head and gave him a firm no.

"Why don't you want a kitty? Weren't they cute enough?" Aiba asked again as they made their way home later that night. Ai leaned her head against the car window and rolled her eyes.
"Akina and Taku are keeping them both, okay? You'll play with them when we visit. And yes they were cute... but..." Ai stopped talking and started to chew on her nail again. Aiba looked from the road over to Ai, his expression curious.
"But...?"
"I don't wanna say..."
"It can't be that bad! Are you allergic? You can't really help that! Oh! Are you-"
"I don't like cats."
Aiba smashed the brake in surprise, causing them to fly forward. Ai caught herself on the dashboard and punched Aiba's arm.
"What the hell are you doing!?"
"You don't like kitties!?"
"No, I don't!"
Aiba stared at Ai, massaging her neck and cursing Aiba under her breath. Aiba slowly pulled the car over and put it into park. Aiba unbuckled himself and leaned over, kissing Ai gently on the lips for a moment.
"What...?"
"It's okay, I still love you, Ai-chan." Aiba said softly, kissing her again. Ai started to laugh and wrapped her arms around his neck tightly.

The day of the wedding had approached as close family and friends arrived at Akina's home for the private ceremony. Aiba's parents and brother, along with Ai's parents, flew in together a day before to help Akina prepare for the guests.
Taiyou got permission to invite his friends and Bella and were chasing the kittens around the backyard. Aiba, however, was far too nervous to do anything and just sat stiffly on the couch next to his father, Ai's father and Taku. Ai was stuck in her room, in the same position as Aiba, but with chattering girls instead.
The rest of Arashi showed up later in the afternoon, all dressed in casual suits, much like the ones they wore in Paris, and Aiba seemed to get a little more easy.
"Are you okay?" Sho asked Aiba curiously, handing him something to drink from the refreshment stand. Aiba refused the drink and collapsed into a nearby chair.
"I feel sick again..." Aiba groaned.
"Why are you so nervous?" Jun demanded rather than asked. Aiba opened his eyes again and looked at the four standing around him.
"What if I forget my lines?" Aiba whined.
"You copy what the minister guy says! How can you forget that?" Nino laughed.
"He's going to start crying... he probably won't be able to say anything." Ohno mumbled. Aiba pouted and fell back into the chair again.
Back in Ai's room, she was being cooed over by the females despite her growing nervousness.
"You can't even tell you're expecting, Ai-chan!"
"The dress is beautiful on you!"
"Ah! You look like a princess!"
Ai smiled and mumbled thank you many times until finally Akina whisked everyone downstairs to grab their seats before it started. She smiled at her sister and hugged her tightly.
"Ai-chan-"
"Akina, I really, really have to thank you..." Ai said, growing steadily tearful. Akina laughed and held her hand, guiding her out of the room.
"You can thank me later! Right now, you're on a schedule!" Akina said, checking her watch again. Ai quickly stopped her sister as a thought came into her mind.
"Oh! What about Masaki's present?" Ai asked anxiously. Akina grinned.
"It's all prefect."

"Gambatte, gambatte, gambatte, gamb-" Aiba mumbled over and over as he stood frozen at the end of the aisle, his hands in fists. Sho patted his back softly to comfort him and to get him
to stop talking while everyone else was silent. Aiba was quiet and he was sure that all the blood was drained from his face... but when he spotted Ai with her father starting to walk the aisle, everything that made Aiba so nervous melted away.
Ai had a smile on her face as she looked at the families and friends but faltered a little as she saw Aiba. He looked happy... but he was still very pale and sickly looking. As Aiba walked forward, he stumbled a little and caught Ai, throwing her a little off balance as well. Luckily the guests were occupied with sitting back down that no one noticed the stumble... except for the other bandmates, of course.
Nino and Jun started to snicker, but a quick nudge from Ohno and a glare from Sho, made them fall silent again, though their grins were still plastered to their faces.
"Are you okay?" Ai whispered to Aiba when she balanced Aiba. He giggled and nodded and took Ai's hand in his.
"I'm fine! Gambatte!" Aiba whispered mainly to himself. Ai gave him a strange stare as he dragged her up to the altar.
The vows were going surprisingly smooth for the beginning... but then once Aiba's voice broke from withholding tears, there was no stopping them. Even the minister, who looked at Ai, wondering if he should continue, seemed a bit worried about Aiba's sobbing vows.
But Ai nodded, allowing the process to continue, and hurriedly finished before Aiba collapsed on the ground.
When it was time for the rings, Aiba's hands were shaking so much that Ai had to help Aiba fit the ring.
"He's really, really nervous isn't he?" Sho whispered to the other three. Nino and Jun agreed and Ohno smiled adoringly.
"It's cute though, ne?" he whispered as they watched Aiba quickly apologize to the audience.
Finally, just as Ai was growing irritated, the minister pronounced them married.
"You may now kiss the bride." but instead of kissing Ai, Aiba gave her one of the biggest hugs in the world, drawing laughter from the crowd.
"Ugh, Masaki! You're supposed to kiss me!" Ai gasped, trying to pry Aiba off her.
"Arigatou, Ai-chan!" Aiba cried on her shoulder. Ai sighed in defeat and hugged Aiba tightly.
Magically, Aiba's tears disappeared once they brought out the cake and food.
"Ai-chan! Cut it! Hurry!" Aiba exclaimed, pulling Ai away from a conversation with Akina and Taku.
"Hold on! I want you to open your present." Ai said, pointing over to a very large box sitting in the grass.
"I didn't know we were supposed to get each other anything!" Aiba cried worriedly, following Ai. She giggled and pulled at the giant bow.
"Don't worry about it! Hurry, open it!" Ai urged him on. Jun, who was in charge of the video camera, moved in closer to get the best shot.
Aiba untied the bow and then slowly opened the lid, his eyes growing wide.
"AH! KAWAII!" Aiba shouted, soon joined by Taiyou and his friends. Aiba reached in and soon pulled out three very wiggly and chubby puppies, all struggling to lick Aiba.
"Do you know what you've done?" Nino asked Ai. Ai nodded slowly and sighed.
"It was a very stupid impulse buy... and I couldn't choose one... ah, I should have got him fish..." Ai mumbled, watching Aiba and the kids being chased by the floppy puppies.
The party finally died down around midnight when Taiyou, the puppies and Aiba were fast asleep in huddle on the grass. Ai sat with Akina and Taku and the rest of Arashi at a table, talking quietly. All the guests and family had left, leaving the house and yard silent.
"We certainly had a very interesting year..." Ai said, pulling her coat closer to her.
"I think this is the only year we've been scolded so much." Jun laughed. They went silent for some time, drinking and picking at their food.
"Ai-chan? I've been wondering... if Aiba has had feelings for you since he was little... why didn't he ever tell you?" Ohno asked quietly, causing everyone to look at Ai.
She smiled and laughed a little bit, looking over to the sleeping Aiba.
"He did tell me... I just didn't realize it."

"Ai-chan, why are you keeping us away from Masaki-kun? Do you want him all to yourself?" Ai sat at her desk, trying to ignore her classmate's questions.
"Does it really matter?" Ai grumbled, glaring at the girls.
"We see you two together all the time! And how you hit Niimi-chan just for being with him! How horrible!" all the girls agreed with each other, making Ai even more irritated. She quickly stood up, causing the girls to gasp in fright.
"Niimi deserved it! I warned her even before Masaki-chan started to date her! She-"
"Ai-chan? Why are you yelling?" Aiba's worried voice entered the classroom and all the girls around Ai fell silent. Ai sat back down, still fuming in anger. Aiba reached out and took Ai's hand and pulled her from the classroom, all the students gawking after them.
"They are so irritating! Saying I want you all to myself!" Ai kicked the fence of the roof angrily, making Aiba start laughing.
"What!? What are you laughing at!?" Ai snapped. Aiba smiled at Ai and shrugged.
"Well it's true right?" Aiba asked quietly. Ai was stunned into silence and her face began to flush.
"Uh... well... no. Wouldn't that be too selfish?" Ai stammered.
"It is! But... I don't mind, Ai-chan. You should stand up to them, you know."
"B- But..."
"I realized something after that short thing with Niimi-chan." Aiba said curiously, looking over at Ai.
"That she was a whore?" Ai mumbled sourly. Aiba smirked and shook his head.
"No. I realized that... she... she wasn't you."

"After thinking back to that time... Masaki was trying to tell me that he loved me." Ai explained with a laugh. Akina sighed and stood up.
"If both of you just said it sooner... we wouldn't have had to go through all this." she said with a slightly irritating glance.
"We're a little surprised we never heard about you, Ai-chan." Sho said.
"I'm not surprised. We both tried to forget about each other..." Ai said, glancing over to Aiba, who was finally woken up when Akina picked up Taiyou.
After everyone congratulated Ai and Aiba once again before leaving, the new couple made their way home with gifts and a box full of sleeping puppies.
"Can they sleep with us?" Aiba whispered, setting down the box in the bedroom.
"Are you serious? Did you forget it's our wedding night?" Ai said as she paused in the bathroom door. Aiba jumped over the bed and caught Ai in a hug.
"I was just kidding Ai-chan..." Aiba mumbled with a smile.
"Ah, good... they can sleep with us tomorrow, okay?" Ai said, kissing Aiba quickly. Aiba let Ai go into the bathroom and laid on the floor, taking the puppies out of the box and onto a giant fluffy blanket he threw onto the ground. The three puppies found each other and curled up to sleep. Aiba stroked their heads with his fingers, smiling lovingly at them.
"You are all going to grow up into big and cute puppies and we'll play fetch and Frisbee and go swimming in the ocean. Oh! And Riida can even teach you to catch fish!" Aiba whispered excitedly. Ai come out in pajamas and sat next to Aiba, joining him in petting the animals.
"Can we handle these guys and Minoru-kun?" Ai asked. Aiba looked over at Ai and nodded.
"Of course! Because we were meant to do this, otherwise it wouldn't have happened." Aiba said happily.
Ai and Aiba stayed silent for sometime, just watching the sleeping puppies and listening to their puppy sounds. Aiba slowly leaned over and kissed Ai gently, holding her close to him. She closed her eyes and absorbed Aiba's comfort.
Without any words at all, they both knew that there was no other place they would ever want to be.

Epilogue
"Taiyou-kun! Take the dogs and Minoru-kun outside! I can't work with you two running around!" Ai shouted in frustration as she stormed out of the kitchen and into the living room where the two boys and the three dogs were roughhousing.
Taiyou jumped up from the floor and took the hand of eight year old Minoru.
"Do you think the dogs could find us if we hide, Minoru-kun?" Taiyou asked cheerfully.
"Papa said dogs can smell anything! Let's go!" Minoru then dashed outside with the dogs and Taiyou on his trail.
"How can you deal with him for so long?" Ai asked Bella as she reentered the kitchen. Bella, continuing to mix cake ingredients, smiled brightly at Ai.
"I don't know, Nee-chan... but, I never feel sad when I'm around him!" Ai grinned at the younger girl's flushing cheeks and giggled.
"Ah... I'm glad Taiyou-kun finally told you how he felt! Though... I have a feeling Masaki had something to do with it?" Ai asked curiously, wiping her hands on her apron before grabbing a cook book. Bella blushed even more and nodded.
"And Akina-san. They were both in on it."
"Akina!? Ah! They're both so nosy!" Ai grumbled loudly, passing a tray to Bella to pour in the cake mix. A loud curse was hear from outside, followed by the hysterical laughter by the two boys.
"Taiyou-kun stepped in dog poo!" Minoru shouted, his voice reaching the kitchen with ease. Ai and Bella stopped what they were doing and looked over at each other.
"I'll go take care of it." Bella offered immediately, seeing the look of pure annoyance on Ai's face. She quickly rushed out of the kitchen and into the backyard.
Ai listened to Bella scolding Taiyou and telling Minoru to go get the hose.
"Just a couple more hours and then they'll be here..." Ai mumbled to herself as she continued to prepare the birthday dinner.

"Ah! Minoru-kun! Don't open that in here!" Bella's pleads were drowned out by a loud clatter and the sounds of marbles hitting the coffee table and onto the floor.
"Do you think I can skate on marbles, Taiyou-kun?" Minoru asked as he quickly gathered the marbles. Taiyou loudly approved of the experiment, helping collect the marbles into two piles, while Bella grabbed onto Minoru's hands.
"I don't think it's a good idea! What if you break something?" she asked nervously, looking around the spotless living room with a few breakable objects here and there.
"Just hold onto me and I won't fall, Nee-chan." Minoru said with a smile. Taiyou and Bella held onto the little boy's hands as he balanced on the two piles of marbles. After a few minutes of trying to move across the floor, Minoru gave up and pouted in disappointment.
"Eh... I guess the end result isn't as amazing as I thought it would be." Taiyou patted his head and knelt down beside him.
"Next time we'll try bigger marbles and we'll go on the sidewalk instead, okay?" Minoru grinned happily up at Taiyou and jumped up in excitement.
While the boys went upstairs to play video games, Bella returned to the kitchen to help Ai. She paused for a moment with her green eyes wide in shock.
The spacious kitchen was covered with pans and dishes and food.
"W- What happened!?" Bella asked, walking in slowly. Ai turned around from the sink, almost as dirty as the kitchen, and sighed.
"Well... I messed up on a few things and I forgot to add ingredients... I'm so tired, Bella-channnn..." Ai whined, sinking against the counter. Bella strained a smile and tried to comfort Ai.
"Akina should be over soon, right? And Masaki and his friends? Until then I can help you clean, okay?" Bella offered cheerfully. Ai nodded and thanked Bella tearfully as they began to move the edible foods to the dinner table and throwing out the ruined ones.

"Tadaima!"
"Yay! Papa!" Aiba was met by a very cheerful Minoru as he rushed to meet him with open arms. Planting a big kiss on Aiba's cheek, Minoru was scooped up in Aiba's arms.
"Minoru-kun, what did you do today?" Aiba asked, carrying Minoru.
"Taiyou and I played hide and seek with the puppies! And then Taiyou stepped in poo!" Minoru exclaimed excitedly, laughing along with his father.
"And what about Mama and Bella-chan? Did they do okay?" Aiba asked, setting down Minoru and kneeling in front of him.
"They messed up on a lot of stuff... Mama used a lot of bad words." Minoru said, suddenly very serious. Aiba bit his lip to hide his smile and kissed Minoru's forehead.
"Should I go scold her?" Aiba asked in a whisper. Minoru grinned and nodded before dashing into the kitchen. Aiba walked into the kitchen to find Bella, Taiyou and Ai setting up the table. There was lots of simple snacks arranged on plates, including cookies, and a rather large cake sitting in the middle.
"Oh! It looks good!" Aiba exclaimed, closely examining the foods.
"Don't touch it! Bella-chan and I worked our asses off to make this perfect!" Ai said firmly, pushing Aiba away from the table. Aiba followed Ai into the kitchen and finally got a chance to pin her to the counter.
"Minoru said you were cursing a lot today?" Aiba asked between kisses.
"Well really I should blame you." Ai pouted up at Aiba.
"You're the one that agreed to making Tamiko-chan and Sho-kun's birthday dinner!"
Ai scowled at Aiba, knowing that he was right. Smiling in triumph, Aiba took advantage of the situation, kissing Ai a little too deeply and passionately for the children's eyes.
Bella grabbed Minoru and Taiyou's hands and pulled them from the kitchen.
"Don't watch them!" Bella whispered sharply to Taiyou as the three walked towards the front door.
"They shouldn't be doing that so openly anyway!" Taiyou argued back.
"It's their house!" Bella snapped. Minoru looked between the two and giggled.
"Nee-chan's just jealous!" Bella's face turned a bright red and a wide smile spread across Taiyou's face.
"Aw, Bella-chan!" Taiyou cooed softly, but laughing at the same time. While the boys were laughing at Bella, the doorbell had rung and Bella was the only one to notice. She quickly opened the door to find Sho blindfolded with Jun, Nino and Ohno behind him.
"Oh, Bella-chan! Where's Ai?" Jun asked cheerfully.
"Ah... she's currently occupied with Masaki! Happy birthday, Sho-kun!" Taiyou chirped from behind Bella, draping his arm around her shoulders.
"Now!? Can't they control themselves?" Nino asked, earning a strange glance from Ohno, who knew better than anyone of Nino's lack of self control. Minoru grabbed Sho's hand and lead him into the dining room, chattering a mile a minute about the marble experiment he tried earlier.
Upon hearing their guests, Ai and Aiba had abruptly stopped all actions and tried to straighten out each other's clothing and smooth down their hair.
"Happy birthday, Sho-kun!" Aiba said louder than necessary and giving the blindfolded member a giant hug.
"Arigatou..." Sho gasped once Aiba had released him. Ai scolded at bit at Sho and looked over to Jun, Ohno and Nino.
"Why's he blindfolded?" she asked curiously. Ohno and Nino looked to Jun, who was responsible for the idea.
"What? What's wrong with it?" Jun asked, looking slightly confused. Aiba took off the blindfold and threw it to Nino while everyone else helped themselves to the snacks and drinks. Nino smirked and teased Ohno with the blindfold.
"Don't we already have one?" Ohno asked through a mouthful of cookie. Nino shrugged and moved closer to Ohno.
"Both of us could be blindfolded or something..." Nino whispered. Ohno frowned a little, wondering how that would work if they were both blinded. Nino laughed and gently kissed Ohno.
"Oh-chan, once one sense is gone, the others take over and..." Nino paused and looked behind himself and Ohno to find a pair of big and curious eyes. Nino blushed slightly and Ohno smiled brightly, thinking of a way to change the subject.
"Minoru-kun! Want a cookie?" Ohno offered the little boy. Minoru, thankfully oblivious to the ways of Ohmiya, nodded happily and crawled into Nino's lap. Nino, strangely being Minoru's favourite, after Aiba of course, smiled slightly and patted the boy's head as he munched on a cookie.
"Kazu, don't pretend you don't like being his favourite." Ohno teased quietly, watching Minoru poke and pinch Nino's grumpy face.
As the group awaited Akina and Taku's arrival, Aiba and Ai were busy denying that they did anything inappropriate in the kitchen.
"So, Taiyou-kun was lying?" Jun smirked.
"I wasn't! Bella-chan and Minoru were there too!" Taiyou exclaimed. Ai and Aiba gaped at him while Sho and Jun burst into laughter.
"Ah, good thing Minoru takes after Aiba-chan, ne? He doesn't notice much..." Jun mumbled and only Sho, Ai and Taiyou seemed to understand what he meant.
"Ai-chan! Sho-kun, happy birthday!" the group was joined by Taku, Akina and their now four year old, Tamiko. Taiyou rushed towards his little sister and picked her up in a flying hug. As everyone said happy birthday to the little girl, she broke out into giggles and clung to Taiyou, burying her face into his shoulder in embarrassment.
While everyone's attention was on Tamiko, Ai dragged her sister into the kitchen.
"Taste these, Akina! Bella made them and I think she might be a genius at baking!" Ai said in a hurry, pushing the cookies in her hands.
"Bella-chan?" Akina looked at the perfect cookies and took a small bite, her eyes growing wide.
"They... They're better than mine! How'd she do it!?" Akina asked desperately. Ai shook her head and shoved a cookie in her mouth.
"She definitely has to marry Taiyou now! We can't let this recipe go!" Akina exclaimed as she rushed out into the dining room in search for Bella.

The party went on as loud and crazy as ever. Bella being engaged to Taiyou, who didn't seem to mind at all, by Akina's word. Minoru sticking to Nino wherever he went and even started to call him and Ohno "otou-chan and okaa-chan". He spent most of the party lying half on Nino's lap and half on Ohno's lap, playing with little plastic animals. Tamiko had grown attached to Sho, mainly because he was easily tricked by her pleading puppy eyes and ended up with anything she wanted. Jun, however, wasn't easily broken but still caught Tamiko's interest because he let her admire all his jewelry.
"Okay! I think it's time for the cake!" Ai announced finally.
"Let's light the candles and take a group picture!" Aiba interrupted, setting up the camera despite everyone's groans.
"Do you have a timer on that?" Ai asked Aiba, as she lit the candles one by one.
"Yes! Okay! Everyone gather around! Tamiko-chan and Sho-kun up front!" Aiba arranged everyone like a photographer would, ordering everyone where they'll be and how they should pose.
"Ai-chan, stay on the side so I can be next to you!"
"You'll be out of the frame!"
".......MatsuJun move over!"
"I can't move."
"Akina and Taku... ah, perfect spot Akina!"
"Hurry up! I can't hold Minoru forever!"
"Taiyou-kun! Don't grab my a**!"
"Taiyou!"
"Just copying Nino, Bella-chan..."
"I didn't grab Ohno's a**!"
"Yes you did..."
"THREE SECONDS!"
Aiba quickly set the camera and rushed to his spot, arms around Ai with an adoring gaze at the camera.
Three seconds went by... then five...
"Eh? What's wrong?"
"I set it to three seconds!"
"Oh! It's blinking!"
The camera flashed but everyone was out of place. The group started to shout at Aiba, but soon turned into laughter.
The second try... was very much the same outcome, only without the laughter.
On the third try, Aiba was positive that it would work and ordered everyone to freeze until the camera went off. Of course, trying to make the kids and Nino stay still for an unknown amount of time is near impossible, so by the time the camera went off, Nino was captured cursing, Tamiko was draped over Sho, Minoru was pulling Nino's hair and Bella was slapping Taiyou again.
"Masaki-chan! Come on! The candles are almost out!" Ai exclaimed angrily.
This time, Jun joined Aiba in checking the camera.
"You didn't press enter... so it just went back to default... baka." Jun snickered, smacking the embarrassed Aiba and returning to his spot.
Ai kissed Aiba quickly once he returned to his spot and posed for the final picture.

Once the picture was finally and successfully completed, new candles were lit and the group sang "Happy Birthday" to Sho and Tamiko, Aiba being the photographer. On the count of three, Sho and Tamiko blew out the candles and everyone cheered happily.
Ai, Aiba and Minoru sat on the floor of the living room, playing a board game. It was a few hours after the party and everyone had left.
"Ah! Damn it!" Ai fell on the floor, after losing the game.
"Ai-chan, don't say that in front of Minoru!" Aiba scolded her, using one of the dogs as a pillow. Minoru giggled and crawled onto Aiba, hugging him tightly.
"You've said worse!" Ai grumbled as she cleaned up the game.
"Minoru-kun! Do you want to watch a few more A no Arashi episodes before bed!?" Aiba asked suddenly. Minoru sprang up, shouting "Yes!" and "Yay!" and running away upstairs to his room, with dogs following, to grab the videos.
"Whenever you watch those with him you two get ideas and stay up past midnight, leaving a mess for me to clean up!" Ai groaned. Aiba laughed and crawled towards Ai.
"I thought you liked the "can you turn on a lightbulb underwater" experiment?" Aiba's question only brought out Ai's glare as she remembered the almost deadly experiment.
"I promise we won't do anything tonight, okay? Because... I haven't seen you in awhile since I've been working late." Aiba said with a promising smile.
"Really... giving up A no Arashi time for a night with me?" Ai said sarcastically, getting up to put the board game away. Aiba pouted by himself until Ai came back and sat in front of him.
"Actually, Nino gave me some interesting ideas today at the party... I think I may try them out, Masaki." Ai whispered, drawing closer to Aiba.
"Ahhh, Nino? He has some... strange... k- kinks, you know..." Aiba mumbled against Ai's lips.
"They sound fun though." Ai purred teasingly as she ran her fingers through Aiba's hair.
"Doggy pile!"
Before either Aiba or Ai could look behind them, Minoru had jumped onto his parents, squishing them all together and pinned to the ground. Ai grumbled into Aiba's chest and Aiba tried to protect himself from the excited dogs that were trying to join in.
"Ne, Mama, you're keeping Papa away from watching!" Minoru said as he sat on Ai's back with an angry pout. Ai lifted her head to look up at Aiba and glared at him.
"He's your kid, Masaki." she groaned. Aiba giggled and rolled over, Ai and Minoru falling over. He quickly kissed Ai and grabbed Minoru, hoisting him up onto his shoulders.
"Which one is it tonight, Minoru-kun?" Aiba asked as he walked up the stairs.
"Dropping a bowling ball in the jelly stuff!"
Ai sat in the middle of the living room, listening to Aiba's excited chatter about the experiment.
"Baka..."

"Oh! You're still awake!" Aiba whispered loudly, shutting the door to the bedroom as quietly as he could.
"Yeah... is Minoru asleep?" Ai asked, crawling across the bed to turn off the lamp.
"The dogs too!" Aiba smiled widely before going into the bathroom. Ai smirked to herself and grabbed an old book from under her clothes in the nearby dresser. She leaned against the pillows on the bed and opened up to a page that probably hadn't seen daylight in a long, long time.
"What's that?" Aiba asked, joining Ai's side on the bed.
"I found this... I thought it was kind of funny to read." Ai giggled, sharing the book with Aiba.
"Eh... Valentine's Day... 1998?" Aiba mumbled.
"My love letter to you. Akina told me to send it but I never did." Ai laughed.
"Let me read it!" Aiba said, making a grab for the book that Ai pulled away.
"No! You can't read it!" Ai exclaimed, shoving the book under the pillow.
"Why not?" Aiba pouted. Ai turned a light shade of pink and hid her face in the bed sheets. Aiba pulled the sheets away and tackled Ai in a hug.
"Because... it's stupid... and embarrassing." Ai mumbled into his neck.
"Embarrassing?" Aiba laughed, quickly pinning Ai down with one arm and grabbing the book with the other. While Aiba read the short letter and Ai kept trying to grab it away, he started to giggle uncontrollably until he collapsed back onto the bed.
"Ai-chan!! Kawaii!" Aiba laughed into the pillow as Ai stuffed the book away and crawled under the covers.
"Go away. We're not doing anything tonight." Ai snapped.
"Aw, Ai-chan... I loved it! It was cute." Aiba whispered in Ai's ear and successfully drawing her out.
"Masaki-chan... I love you." Ai said with a smile that Aiba learned to be slightly weary of.
"I love you too, Ai-chan, but-" Aiba whispered in response, just quick enough before Ai captured him in a forceful and passionate kiss.

Ai hesitated at the postbox, her hand shaking as she reached for the lid.
"Just... put the letter in... he'll get it by Valentine's Day..."
"Ai-chan! Come on, just do it!" Akina shouted from her post across the street. Ai nodded and closed her eyes, ready to drop the letter into the postbox.
"But what if he has some other girl by now? My letter won't do anything... I can't even send him chocolate..." Ai withdrew her hand and sighed, placing the letter into her pocket and walking across the street, head bowed. Akina met her sister, crouching down and looking at Ai curiously.
"Ai-chan...?"
"I can't... I'm not..." Ai had unknowingly started to cry, startling Akina.
"Don't cry over it! It's just a letter!" Akina said roughly, pulling Ai's head up and scowling at her. Ai sniffed and tried to compress her sobs, but nothing seemed to work.
"B- But... it's Ma- Ma- Masaki-chan!" Ai wailed loudly, rushing into her sister's arms. Akina, usually being tough and heartless towards Ai, smiled slightly and hugged her tightly.
"Listen, Ai-chan. One day, everything will turn out perfect. Someone... I met, he told me that "even though you think your life is over now, someone will come along and revive you." Ai stared at her sister in awe.
"Onee-chan... I don't think I've ever heard sweet words come out of your mouth." Ai whispered. Akina blushed and cleared her throat.
"They aren't my words! Now quit crying over Masaki and let's go!" Akina growled, pulling Ai along with her. Ai smiled to herself, her sister's strange behaviour brightening up her hopes. Ai felt the folded letter in her pocket and made one single wish.

"Masaki-chan? You know I made a wish that day when I tried to send that stupid letter." Ai said drowsily in Aiba's arms.
"What was it?"
"...To one day show you the letter... and have you return my love."
"I think it was granted... and I've already returned your love... many times, actually."
"All right, no need to get perverted over it..."
Aiba laughed quietly, kissing the side of Ai's head before closing his eyes to sleep. Ai smiled to herself and fell deeply into a sound and peaceful sleep.

"I think your kissing has improved, Masaki-chan! Maybe I should be a teacher."
"A teacher of kissing!? Ai-chan... I wouldn't like that much..."
"I'm joking..."
"Oh... hey, Ai-chan?"
"Hm?"
"...do you think... it's okay to marry your best friend?"
"Yeah... what's wrong with that?"
"Nothing's wrong with it! I was just..."
"Would you want to marry me?"
"...maybe in the future, I will."
