Kurosawa Akira's "Kakushi toride no san akunin" remake! The lead actor is Arashi's Matsumoto Jun

The late director Kurosawa Akira's famous "Kakushi toride no san akunin" (English title "The Hidden Fortress") will be having remake in 50 years. The lead role that the late Mifune Toshirou played will be changed from a warrior to a original character, a peasant, and Arashi's Matsumoto Jun (24) will be playing the role. Director Higuchi (42) says he will "overturn Matsumoto's image" and Masumoto says he will "challenge this big project with all his heart and soul." It will be out in theaters May 10th.

Matsumoto, with a strong image of a cool, smart, prince-like character will go for a wild role he's never done before.

"Kakushi toride-" is a movie that Director Kurosawa announced in Showa 33nen (1958), and the leading samurai of the beaten army (Mifune) protects the heiress and the sinews of war, and breaks through the enemy with two peasants he meets along the way. The peasant is the model for the main character this time, Takezou.

Director Higuchi suggested that they "create a main character that has the audience's point of view" in remaking this movie after 50 years. With consent from Kurosawa Production, they created a new story with the same character relationships and background.

Takezou is not exactly strong, or a hero, but longs to escape the lowly life he leads, and he goes for Rokurouta's sinews of war. The Director focused on Matsumoto for drawing Takezou.

Matsumoto has constantly been expanding his acting with various characters, such as the TBS's "Hana yori Dango"s selfish rich character, a fiery man aiming to be a top chef in Nihon TV's "Bambino" in April, and taking the first lead role in the movie "Boku wa Imouto ni Koi wo suru" in January. However, Director Higuchi analyzes "He still has wild nature lurking in him." He grins, "I want to overturn his former image. I will dirty it to the furthest point possible."

Matsumoto has started horse riding lessons for his first jidai-geki (historical era movie), and says "I hope to make it a movie that all generations can enjoy, even people who have seen the original movie to watch it with their children and grandchildren."

"Kakushi toride-" is highly evaluated for its excellent character organization, and is well-known for Director George Lucas (63) announcing that it was the original idea for his "Star Wars" series. C=3PO and R2-D2's models were Tahei and Yashichi.

In Higuchi's version, the heroine Yukihime will be played by Nagasawa Masami (20). Director Higuchi says he will "overturn the lively girl into a strong, beautiful princess."

Rokurouta played by the late Mifune will be played by Abe Hiroshi (43), an excellent significance with his height of 189cm. He is already ready in his horsemanship and swordsmanship, and is ready to show a new Rokurouta.

This movie sounds awesome! I want to see Jun play this type of character. It's a really big budget film too.

Wow! This movie sounds interesting especially since Jun is like the lead character. And I would like to see how they are gonna change his image & "dirty" him up a bit. I also hope that this will be released in DVD w/ English subs like what they did w/ Kiiroi Namida.

OMG! I'm so looking forward to watching this movie!! I'm really happy that Jun-kun finally takes on a non-manga role for his solo movie which I and most of us have been hoping for. And Abe Hiroshi is a plus!! Kyaa!! I LOVE HIM! Words can't describe how happy I am.

Heard the filming for this movie will start 11/1 and will go on until the end of this year, since starting next January he has filming for Hanadan.
