CHAPTER 20:

“Anna… why do I feel nervous?” Ohno asked her. She smiled at him a little, holding his hand tighter.

“We’re here,” she said. Ohno looked up. It was a mansion. She chuckled as she saw Ohno’s jaw dropping.

“I did not know you were this rich,” he said as he looked at the whole area.

Anna just smiled as she pressed the button of the intercom. “I’m here,” she said. The gates automatically opened for the two of them. “Satoshi, let’s go,” she said, nodding at him.

They walked around the large fountain that adorned the garden and into the door. The doors opened.

“Eh? Ohno-kun?” Maki said, as he was the one who opened the door. “What are you doing here?”

“Maki, don’t talk too loud,” Anna said, pressing her finger to her lips.

“Maki, what is it?” a voice asked. A tall woman emerged from the top of the stairs. “Anna? Who is that?” she asked.

Ohno did not understand anything but he realized that he was noticed because the woman was pointing at him. “Ohayou gozaimasu,” he said, bowing down. “Ohno Satoshi desu. Hajimemashite.”

She raised an eyebrow at him. “Ohayou gozaimasu,” she greeted in Japanese. Then she told Anna, “Bring him to the guest parlor.”

“Yes, Mom,” she replied. “Iku,” she told Ohno, holding his hand tight as she led him upstairs.

They both sat on a couch inside the parlor, Ohno looking around the gold-adorned furnitures and decorations. It was creepy because he was thinking that anytime, those creatures carved on wood would just become alive and jump on him. Anna, seeing his nervousness, held his hand and smiled at him.

“Satoshi, you’re cold. Relax,” she said, rubbing her hands with his. “Daijoubu…”

The door opened and the maid entered, serving a slice of cake for each and drinks. “Thank you,” Anna said and the maid went away.

The door opened for the second time and this time, it was Anna’s mother who arrived. She was a tall woman with her hair on a clean bun. She was also wearing precious jewelry. She has Anna’s eyes, however it gave shivers down his spine.

“What brings you here?” she asked in his language.

Anna gave him a nudge by the elbow. Ohno looked up at her as she sat on the chair. “I…” he was nervous. But as he looked at Anna, he felt more courage and determination in his blood. “I would like to take Anna back to Japan.”

“Back to Japan? For what reason?” she asked. She was drinking coffee. “I already asked her to go home. Certainly, you’re not someone offering business with her.”

“I would like to take Anna back to Japan because… because I can’t live alone without her,” he said, standing up, seriousness etched all over his face. Anna just stared at him, shocked at everything he was saying.

“You can’t live alone without her,” she repeated. “Why? Is she your assistant or something?” she was asking as though she doesn’t have common sense. Or maybe she was trying to be sarcastic.

“I… I love her,” Ohno finally said, making Anna’s mother stop sipping her coffee. “I can’t live without her. Please let me bring her back to Japan… to be with me…”

“Ah, sou ka…” she said, trying to be calm but there was a hint of menace in her voice. “Does that mean you’re asking her hand in marriage?”

“Eh?” that did not strike his head yet.

“Mom, he can’t!” Anna said, standing up beside him.

“Can’t what?”

“Can’t marry me…” she admitted, bowing down her head. She liked the idea of marriage but that cannot be, since Ohno is an idol. What about his career?

“And why not?” her mother asked, an eyebrow raised. “He said he cannot live without you and he wants to take you to Japan but he cannot marry you? What kind of baloney is that?”

“Mom,” she tried to find the right words to explain. “He’s an idol. He cannot just marry anyone. What would happen to his career and…?”

“I would gladly quit,” Ohno said, looking at Anna.

“Iatta,” she said, horrified at the idea she was the one ruining his career. “Satoshi, you’re…”

“If this is the only way to get you, I’ll quit Johnny’s and marry you,” he said seriously, holding her hand.

“You can’t,” she said desolately.

“So, what are you going to do?” Anna’s mother asked, smirking at them. She was winning. “He even doesn’t have a stable job. Don’t tell me he’ll stay like an idol forever?”

Anna broke from Ohno’s grasp and started to speak. She made sure that she was speaking in Japanese so that Ohno would also understand. “Mom, I love Satoshi. I cannot live without him. I want to be with him always.” She looked at Ohno who was transfixed. “But if you’re saying marriage is the only way for him to get me from you, I will not agree. That will make me the reason for him to break away from the world where he belonged. That will make him lonely. And if I become the reason of that loneliness, everything will be useless.”

Her mother looked at her seriously. “But he could not just get you like that without a reason,” she said, not giving up.

“We love each other. Isn’t that a rightful reason?” Anna asked, her voice now breaking due to her tears. “I’ve always followed you in every order you gave me. You sent me to to Japan, I agreed. You asked me to return here, I agreed, even though it’s hard for me. Please… please… please try to grant the thing that I wanted. Just this once…”

Her mother looked at her for a moment. Moments of silence. Only the ticking of the grandfather clock in the room can be heard.

“Iie…”

“Demo…”

“That’s not a good reason…” she said simply. She took a last sip of coffee and stood up to leave the room. “It’s better if you stay here. I heard you live like a pauper in Japan.”

“NINSHIN SHITE IRU!” Anna shouted, making her mother stop on her tracks. It seemed like her voice echoed throughout the whole mansion.

“Nani?” she asked, stepping back inside. “What’s the meaning of this?” She turned to Ohno angrily.

“Eh? Wakarimasen…” Ohno replied. He was also shocked with Anna’s confession.

“This is such a disgrace! My daughter getting pregnant without getting married! Explain yourself!” she yelled, pointing at Ohno. Then suddenly, she fainted.

“Mitsuhashi-san,” Ohno gasped, fanning her with his hands. “Anna, what did you tell her?” he asked.

“I was so desperate, Satoshi,” Anna said, also panicking.

“Are you?” Ohno asked, also starting to panic.

“Iie!” she shouted indignantly. Ohno was even half-hoping that she’ll answer yes.

Maki went inside the room. “Onee-chan, you’re pregnant?” he asked.

“Uruseiyo!” she said, hitting his head.

Ohno looked around in confusion. “Anna, what are we going to do?”

“If I tell her I’m not really pregnant, she will certainly not allow me to go back to Japan,” Anna thought. “I can be so baka at times…”

“Anna… I’m getting confused!” Ohno said, running around the room. Taking his phone from his pocket, he decided to call the most appropriate persons to solve the problem.

Nino spat out the water he was drinking, drenching Aiba. “She’s what?”

“Ninshin,” Ohno replied on the phone.

“NINSHIN?” he repeated, making the other boys’ eyes wide. After a few more nods, he hung up.

“What is it?”

“Don’t tell me they have created a new kawaii human being,” Aiba said excitedly.

Nino raised an eyebrow. “Of course not,” he said, smirking.

“Then why are you shouting ‘ninshin’ there on the phone?” Sho asked.

Nino played with the glass on the table. “It looks like the two are stuck in a fire and Riida needs our help.”

“I’m glad she allowed you to go back to Japan,” Sho said, patting Anna on the shoulder.

“Well…” she started.



“I’ll never allow this to happen! What will my friends say? That my daughter’s not brought up in a moral way?” her mother shouted at her hysterically.

“Mom, you know I can handle this,” Anna replied. Ohno was beside her, holding her hand to ease the tension.

“My God! This is so embarrassing! Then you’re telling me this man…” she pointed at Ohno with her fan, “… cannot marry your because he has a career?”

“Yes,” Anna replied. “But please…”

“And this man does not have a decent job!”

“Singing and dancing are decent jobs, mom,” Anna defended. After all, she works as a dancer too.

“He doesn’t have stable work!”

Anna was silent. Well, that was another thing. Ohno could last up to thirty years as an idol. But…

“I have no choice, Anna. You have to leave here. Nobody should know what’s happened to you.” She turned to Ohno. “You are at fault to this! You are responsible for this!”
Ohno felt that this woman could eat him alive. She was fuming, looking at him with her wide eyes. Out of the blue, he was spacing out. [i] “Are Anna’s eyes like that when she gets mad?” he wondered.

“Satoshi… hey…” Anna’s voice from faraway called. Then he’s back to the ground, facing Anna’s mother, who was bitter at the fate of her daughter.

“I brought you up as a good lady… then you just went to Japan to get pregnant?” She walked around the room, shaking her head. “I should not have allowed you to go there in the first place.”

“Mom, it’s my decision,” Anna said in her polite voice, though it was obvious she wanted to shout at her own mother.

“It just took a long discussion,” Anna replied.

“But aren’t you pregnant?” Aiba asked.

“Iie…” she said in a strong voice. “I won’t allow myself to be… yet.”

“Ah, sou ka…” Aiba replied, disappointed.

“What are you planning to do, Aiba-chan, raise the child if there is?” Nino asked, putting his arm over him. “At least you’re safe to pretend here…”

“But for how long?” Ohno asked. “We can’t just produce a child like it would just fall down from the sky.”

“I know. I know,” Nino said, removing his hand from Aiba’s shoulder. “But the two of you put up this kind of play. You have to finish it until the end even though you’re tired, ne?”

“Well, aside from REALLY making a child, we have to think of ways,” Jun said. “Ways that won’t make this thing a big buzz, am I right?”

“Iatta…” Anna said, hanging up her phone. She called Ohno. “Satoshi, we have a problem.

“Meet us up in the café,” he replied.

The five of them, all in weird disguises, went inside the café and found Anna sitting at the farthest corner. “Anna-san, doushitano?” Aiba asked. He saw that she was nervous and uneasy.

“Okaa-san says she wants to stay here to monitor my pregnancy,” Anna replied.

“Nani?” Jun said. “Yabai! How are we going to pretend?”

“One wrong move and the media could pester us…”

“One wrong move and Ohno-kun and Anna-san could not see each other again…”

Ohno and Anna looked at each other fearfully. “What are we supposed to do?” Ohno asked, pleading for some miracle to fall down from the sky.

“Ah, I wanted to test my director skill for the first time,” a voice said. It was Nino. He stood up to do some stretching.

“If you don’t want to do some REAL baby making, we’ll have to do something else.” Nino pointed at Ohno. “Oh-chan, be prepared for the most difficult butai you’ll ever do in your whole life.”

Uwwaa~ this is cool! Nino becoming the "director" for this "butai" XD

was this the twist? its certainly awesome! i wonder what nino plans to do. and what theyre going to act out. this is one "butai" i wont miss "watching"!

Okay no more commentary from me on what may or may not happen. Gotta say though, I didn't predict Anna telling her mom THAT.

Having a butai is an awesome idea.. I can't wait how will Nino manage this butai scenes..

CHAPTER 21:

“Okaa-san! You’re here!” Anna said, rubbing her eyes. She has just woken up because she was tired doing her new choreography.

“So, this is the house your father bought for you,” her mother said, looking disgusted. “Are you sure you can live here?” she asked.

“Of course. I’m not a picky person,” Anna replied.

“What will you have for dinner?”

“Ramen. I still haven’t bought groceries,” she told her mother as she arranged the couch for her to sit on.

“Ramen? Anna, don’t tell me you’ve been living with noodles for the past years,” she said.

“Of course not! And it’s not just noodles. It’s ra-men,” she said slowly, trying to give the difference of the two. “Satoshi loves ramen… Eh… chotto matte! Satoshi will be here and he’s the one bringing the ramen!” She started hitting herself hard on the head.

She took her phone and started to dial Ohno’s number to call him.

“Moshi moshi?” Ohno’s voice from the other line said.

“Satoshi, don’t come here!” she whispered loudly on the phone.

“Eh? I can’t hear you. It’s choppy,” he replied.

“Just don’t come here in the house…” Anna pleaded.

“I can’t hear you. I’m in the…”

The doorbell rang. “I’ll get it,” her mom said.

“Iatta!” Anna shouted as she ran back to the living room. There, she saw, face to face with her mother, Ohno Satoshi.

“You!” she yelled, pointing at him.

His face twitched into a weird expression. It was as if he was trying to smile but thinking that it was not the right time to do so. “Konbanwa, Anna, Mitsuhashi-san,” he bowed in front of her.

“Satoshi!” Anna said in whispers, trying to grab his attention to follow her in the kitchen.

“Anna, get the ramen he’s carrying,” her mother ordered. “I would like to talk to him.”

Anna frowned as she took the plastic bag from Ohno and proceeded to the kitchen. She heard her mother say, “Seriously, you’re only feeding ramen to the woman who’s carrying your child? Can’t you afford something more… more wholesome?”

Anna just mimicked her mother as she heard her endless ranting from the living room. “Kawaiso na,” she thought. “I bet he never experienced that from his own mother.

“Anna?” her mother called out a few minutes later.

“Hai, okaa-san?” she said, leaning from the kitchen.

“Go dress up, we’re going somewhere,” her mother said.

“Where?” she asked. She was still wearing a white shirt and shorts and since she was in the kitchen, she has an apron over it.

“We have to talk about something,” she said. Anna was halfway upstairs when she heard her mother talking on the phone. “Hai, Ohno-san. We have to talk about something. It’s about your son and my daughter.”

Anna locked herself inside the room. “Tell me this isn’t happening!” she said disbelievingly, looking at the newly-framed painting Ohno gave her. She desperately phoned their ‘butai’ director, Nino.

“Nino-kun, my okaa-san’s going to talk to Satoshi’s okaa-san!” she said in a panicked voice. She had to distance herself from her phone’s earpiece when Nino shouted.

“NANI? We must do something about that then!” he shouted. “Where are you going, Anna-san?” he asked.

“I don’t have any idea!” she replied.

“Well, I must inform the others. Tell us where you’ll meet,” he said.

“Hai,” I replied, hanging up. She went to the bathroom to have a quick shower and helped herself into some clothes, the type of clothes her mother wanted her to wear.

“Okaa-san, tell me where are we going,” she demanded angrily as she asked the driver to go.

“Don’t raise your voice at me, young lady,” she said, making Anna shut up.

Ohno was silent at the rest of the trip. His phone rang. “Moshi moshi?”

“Oh-chan, what’s the meaning of all of these?” Nino asked. He was in Jun’s place, pacing around while the other three watched their director.

“I don’t know too,” Ohno replied. He lowered his voice and crouched down. “Mitsuhashi-san told me that she’s going to meet my okaa-san. And Okaa-san agreed! Nino, tasukete!”

Nino turned to the three. “What can we do? I still haven’t planned the plot yet!”

“First, Nino, you must call Ohno-san. I know that the two of you are close,” Sho said smartly.

“Must we tell her about this ‘butai’ thingy?” Aiba asked. “She might get angry!”

Nino winked. “We must use our super actor powers with her! And because I am the first one here who got the Hollywood debut, I should lead the group.”

“Iku!” Sho said, standing up and taking the keys from the table. “I’ll drive.”

“Yamette! Yamette, Sho-kun!” Aiba shouted as he was driving full force. “You don’t want us to be mistaken as those underground drivers in Shibuya, don’t you?”

“We have to get to Ohno-kun’s house before she gets out of the house,” he said through gritted teeth. “Hold on, guys!” he said before pressing a green button which turned out to be…

“Woah! You have nitro in your engines?” Jun said, his fashionable hat lopsided due to the sudden speed increase.

“I only use that for emergencies,” he replied, smirking.

“So, Sho-chan is really an underground racing driver,” Aiba said in an amazed voice.

“We’re here!” Nino said, jumping out of the car to hit the Ohno family gate full force.

“Oi? Stop banging on the gate!” a voice said angrily, the gate was opened. “Ninomiya-kun?” It was Ohno’s sister.

“Onee-san!” Nino said, gasping for air. “Where’s Ohno-san?”

“Eh? She just left, five minutes ago,” she replied.

“Oh my,” Aiba said, covering his face. “What are we going to do now, Nino?” he asked.

“Yeah, Mr. Director. What are we going to do now?” Jun asked, smirking. Even though the situation was serious and he was also willing to help, he can’t help but smirk at this situation where Nino got into.

He called Anna once again. “Anna-san, do you have any idea where you are going?”

“Hai,” she replied. “I think we’re in a restaurant named ‘Le Vienne’.”

“I think I know where that it,” Jun said, revealing his fetish for fine dining. “Turn to the left, Sho-kun!”

“Roger that,” he replied, turning to the right swiftly, making them experience the direct impact of inertia.

Nino was silent, frowning, thinking of a way. “Minna, what if we…?”

“We’re going to get screwed up,” Anna whispered to Ohno as she saw his mother waving at them from the far table.

The three of them sat along with Ohno’s mother, who looked happy that her son was indeed successful in getting Anna back.

“What are we going to talk about, Mitsuhashi-san?” she asked.

“You see, your son and my daughter here are…”

“Oh-chan! We found you!” a voice from afar said, making everyone turn towards their way. Nino was waving his hand frantically as though something bad happened.

“Nino, what are you doing here?” Ohno asked, standing up to meet him.

Nino was gasping for breath. “The… the… concert costumes! They are… err… they need Anna-san’s help!”

“Eh?” Ohno asked, confused.

Sho, Aiba and Jun came running from the door. “Riida…”

“What’s happening here?” Anna’s mother asked, also standing up.

“Ohno-san, we need your help,” Aiba wailed.

“Eh… itai... ah... hai!” Sho responded after Nino stepped on his foot.

“But this is more important, dears,” she said kindly. “This concerns my son.”

“But this also concerns your son!” Nino said, using his acting prowess to lure her. “It’s about… about…”

“His next worldwide exhibition!” Jun said in a crazed way.

“I will have a worldwide exhibition?” Ohno asked, scratching his head. “Demo…” He stopped when Jun gave him a death glare. “Ah, hai…”

“Well then, ‘Toshi, move along. We have things to discuss. This looks urgent,” she said, looking at the impatience written all over Anna’s mother’s face.

Nino, Aiba and Jun looked at each other. Wrong move. “Err… we’re hungry. Can we eat here with you?” Aiba asked stupidly.

Sho closed his eyes, waiting for a blow. Jun clenched his fists, tempted to punch Aiba.

“Okaa-san, they’re my friends. Let’s let them,” Anna said, looking at Nino worriedly.

Her mother looked at the three of them momentarily. “How about this so-called ‘worldwide exhibition’?”

“Err… Sho-kun, you accompany Riida to the pre-meeting,” Nino said, pushing Sho near to the now standing Ohno. Sho looked at him confused but Nino just showed expressions. “We’ll stay here for dinner.” He smiled as he sat down between Ohno’s mom and Anna.

“Nino-kun, what’s up?” Anna whispered through the corners of her lips.

“Daijoubu, daijoubu, the butai’s just starting,” he said with a sly smile.
