I have split thoughts on this question, an oxymoron if you may say so.

1) They are VERY real to me because despite their superstar statuses, every member of Arashi is able to stay laid-back and friendly......and wells, just humane and as normal as they can be!
2) On the other hand, they are still unreal to me because no matter how close I get to them (physically), they will always be miles away (emotionally/mentally) just because they are of superstar status. And even though they are normal in character, their idol status still brings them away from the borderline of normal and abnormal.

Not abnormal as in strange.......but abnormal as in something extraordinary. and that they are.....extraordinary.

And because of that, we can't all be Arashi or any idols for that matter.

So whether they are Real or Unreal to me, I would have to say it's a mixture of the two.

they seem very real to me, considering i know people with the EXACT same personality as them (for example i'm ohno, my friend is aiba, other friend is nino..or maybe more jun, etc etc)

i see them as normal people who i have to say would be awsome to know, they remind me of my friends
but i don't see how people can be worshipping them

personally, if i heard people saying OMG i want you and i want to marry you so we can be together forever and ever and ever WTH
i'd get a little scared
not thats its not a good flattery but theres a little creepiness too

the only thing that isn't real about them is their ages
i just can't get it through my head that they're in their late 20's
they still act like teenagers (thats how i see them as), so its hard to imagine they're going to be 30 soon :P

I think it was kind of reassuring how, in the gakkou e ikkou ep recently, we got to see arashi 'off camera'. And how they still all pretty much just acted as you would expect of them to act, compared to when they're doing shows or interview etc.

It re-affirms (my) faith that their personalities aren't all scripted and fake smile

It is real as it can be 2 me....
Their personalities n everything....
If it is not real, it would be really hard 2 maintain their personalities that way for almost 9 years don't you think...
I love them that way and it sure feels real...
As that is what i think....

Frankly, they feel further and further away the more I get to know them.
At first you can create part of their character in your mind and pretend that you like them. Then as you get to know them and all their little quirkes they slowly turn into real people separate from the image you first had.

That's how it's like for me. This is a good thing. One should not be too delusional for to long, but I still feel a little sad big grin

Still really like them tho' Wohoo!

To be honest, its only possible (for me anyway) to like stars who seem real. I mean, if you take one of those perfect idol types who rarely say anything human or normal, who only sounds cool all the time, never gets angry... well such an idol would either bore me or scare me (hey is he a robot or something?)

The best thing about Arashi is how in their interviews, they not only sound funny (which many people do sound nowadays, but how they show negative emotions at times too). Like sometimes they look seriously annoyed or irritated with someone, or sound rude or even say silly stuff you wouldn't catch an 'IDOL' saying. Those kind of things make me feel, heh hey they're just like us normal ppl whose talents have been recognized and admired and we should continue supporting them coz they're so grounded.

I gotta say though that out of Arashi, Matsumoto Jun probably finds things most difficult coz I'm pretty sure everyone *expects* him to be a perfect idol - or maybe the HYD character type and trying to match that expectation must be hell. Now he is expected to be unreal.

Ohno's the most natural as is Nino, and therefore the most likeable.

But knowing they're real and all that, I probably still cannot say anything meaningful to them if I were to meet them. I'd still be tongue tied. What a shame ne? :( Of course I'd be like this first - Wohoo! But I'd get extra self-conscious afterwards - they're real but they are really really far far away (and I don't just mean geographically).

Gotta agree with you there Heart
It's easier to like people who are honest with their emotions even if they get annoyed or angry at times. The interviews and TV shows they do are nothing like what the Celebs in my country do. It livelier and more interesting seeing that they aren't polite all the time. And I must admit that my personal highlights are the times when Matsumoto-san gets annoyed, angry or suffer from eating spicy food big grin

I agree with that, it's easier to like people who are honest, especially when they're idols. Though I do feel that there are parts of them that are fabricated for TV (god forbid we see their bad sides) I don't think they're fake.

I like the fact that I can see some sides of each of the members that I know would annoy me if I actually met them, because no one is perfect.

in my humble opinion, i don't think anyone will ever get to see the real nino/ohno/jun/sho/aiba, because they are ultimately idols and entertainers, and (quite sadly) their main job is to show the fangirls what they want to see. in a way, we only see the good/idol-ish side i guess.

but what's amazing about the five of them is that even though they are idols and all, we can feel that sincerity that comes through from their every action and the 'realness' yeah? this is what keeps me liking them as people(:

I agree with this, though I'll amend, I don't think that any fan will get to see the real nino/ohno/jun/sho/aiba. I think with their friends and family, they're allowed to be themselves, ne? But I think it's okay that we don't know them completely. After all, everyone is allowed their privacy, right? (^_^)

I think theyre as real as an idol can be, of course we all have our private quirks and what not but they show much more of their real emotions and mannerisms in public than other famous ppl do in my opinion, which makes them feel more like 5 friends than 5 super idols. They really feel like 5 guys who live in the same neighborhood as you or something.
And I know it might sound silly but when they sing songs like Do My Best and Sakura Sake it feels like they're all personally cheering me on to do my best and keep striving for my dreams. I think it all makes their lyrics and message feel more personal and memorable ^^

i also agree w/ this. this is actually a dilemma that i have coz everytime i watch the boys in shows or interviews their personalities seem very real. so i' wonder whether they're like that on & off-cam. though there are times that you can actually get the feeling that they are "acting" or "exagerrating" certain reactions, most of the time the emotions they show seem very real to me (which is why i soooo love them). in fact, because their characters seem to be so real to me, i sometimes feel like i REALLY know them..like they're my friend or something, w/c i guess is not a bad thing at all since they appear more "reachable" to the fans. but like what they say, idols are idols & i don't think they show 100% of who they really are to the fans. like i have this feeling that nino is this serious & deep person but he just doesnt show it to us or something like that...XD

After seeing them in several shows I know the guys are real. They try their best to entertain and to hide their 'bad side' so, it doesn't look like they were real, but you get to know about them and also they talk about the things they don't like about the other.

If I were to meet them in a near future (soon please! Heart ), I guess I would remember everything from the tiniest detail and probably won't sleep at night WTH

Of course they act 'better' on TV/in public, but so does everyone. Even if you're just out in the company of strangers, most likely you're going to adopt 'socially acceptable' behaviour. So for Arashi, being an idol just makes this even more so, ne?

But one of the things that makes me like them so much is the fact that they still show their true personalities, and their evident friendship Heart Even though its hightly likely they're not revealing their inner thoughts while filming, they haven't adopted fake personas just to fanservice big grin
