Totally random, but I was curious. I've actually become lactose intolerant over the last 2-3 years, with it getting progessively worse to the point where now I try to make sure to check whether things might have dairy in them.

Its tough stuff since so many wonderful desserts have dairy in it, lol. I read somewhere that people can develop lactose intolerance as they get older, which I think is pretty interesting, something to do with regional genetics.

I'm not, but do to personal choices I try not to have dairy. Have you tried soy products. Silk soy milk is great. I also use soy butter/margarine, soy mayonnaise, soy cream cheese, soy sour cream, soy ice cream, etc. There are lots of great desserts you can make/buy that do not have dairy. When I bake I use soy milk instead and you can't even taste the difference.

I've been thinking about switching to soy milk, besides the obvious problems I have with milk, soy just sounds better for you overall. I was thinking about trying Silk, its one of those things that I just haven't gotten around to doing. I do a lot of baking and I was surprised that if the recipe calls for a lot of milk it can upset my stomach a little, but not as much as just cold milk, so if you can't notice a difference when baking I'm definitely going to try and remember to pick some up.

Silk also makes really good yogurt, and lately I have been making vegan (so obviously no dairy products) fruit smoothies and they are SO tasty!

The other great thing is so milk lasts a lot longer than regular milk. I just bought some this week and the expiration date is in August some time!

Then I am definitely buying soy, our fridge is so crappy our milk tends to turn pretty quick so the fact it lasts longer is enough to get me to pick it up now, lol. big grin

I'm just a little lactose intolerant. But even though it's just a little I still get tempted to eat ice cream & other yummy dairy stuff. And when I really crave milk I just buy Lactaid. But I also enjoy soy milk. Nowadays, they make really yummy stuff from soy. So, it's not very hard to switch to soy products.

i'm not sure about this. XD i eat a lot of cheese, yogurt and ice-cream, but not a lot of milk. i get sick if i eat anything dairy in the morning, though. by afternoon, or in the evening or at night, i can eat whatever, though. XD but that might be attributed to the fact i can't eat anything after waking up until around two hours later.

i guess I am semi lactose intolerant, if there is such a thing. I can tolerate any dairy product but milk. So, I go back and forth between soy milk and lactose free milk. I was so happy when I finally found a lactose-free organic low fat milk.

I thought I was lactose intolerant before because every time I drink milk in the morning before going to school, I end up going in the bathroom. blaah

but recently, my tummy doesn't seem to mind having milk for breakfast. smile

I am not lactose intolerant, demo I can understand the trobble that it would cause someone that was, because my system stopped tolerateing meat when I was about 10 or 11. So I can understand the whole reading of the lables before buying thing. It can be a pain sometimes.

I do not know what I would do if my system desided that it did not like milk any more. (Go crazy maybe......I really like dairy foods.)

As a child I was lactose intolerant. I somehow grew out of it or something when my mom made me eat cereals just so I'd get milk in me. I do like dairy products actually

I was always a little dairy sensitive, I guess, when I was growing up, but when I got older I definitely got lactose intolerant. I still eat dairy though! But only when I take Lactaid pills. Although I think they're losing their ability to work on me; lately I've been having a bit of trouble with dairy even with my pills. Noooo! I'm all about soy products and everything and can really live without most dairy products, but cheese! I love cheese so much.
