The horror! I can't believe there is a magazine stupid enough to criticize the drama! This is a translation of a magazine which reviewed MAOU.
Tell me, people! Is Toma more popular than Ohno?!?! I thought it was either Ohno is more popular or they are on the same par! OMG! I wanna go whack some common sense into this magazine! GRRRR!!
I know I'm quoting myself.
Here's the email of that baka magazine.

It appears that the writer may be jealous of the japanese actors of MAOU.
If this post isn't allowed, then I will take it down.
you all may discuss this incident further. ^v^
i myself aren't very happy with that article either, more info can also be found at

i havnt read the article as i cant access livejournal here in China is there somewhere else that i can read it?
Aww that sucks
I'll summarize it for you, in case the translators don't want me to take their translation.
The critic basically said that the Korean cast of 'Maou' received great reviews on their acting skills. However, the Japanese cast includes two very popular lead actors, Ohno Satoshi and Ikuta Toma. The critic goes on to say that Ohno is not as popular or skilled in acting as Toma or the Korean actor who played the same role (!?!?!?!). She also says that the female main actress does not measure up to the Korean actress.

One of the rare times I'm ranting here. Allow me because there is FIERY ANGER within me!
Anyone who lives in Singapore go grab a copy of U-mag and flip to page 24-25.
The feature is [2008 Summer 10 Japanese Dramas].
As anticipated, there is MAOU. Translated that portion loosely here:
"When the Korean version of Maou was broadcasted, the drama did not get high ratings due to various affecting reasons, but the cast received rave reviews for their performance. As for this Japanese adaption, it focuses on popularity fights for the two leads, namely Ohno Satoshi and Ikuta Toma. Unfortunately for local fans, I believe that Ohno Satoshi, in terms of looks and popularity, is not only no match for Toma, he also falls way behind the Korean leading man. The female lead (casted as the girl who has supernatural powers), other than being more skinny and frail, is also not up to the Korean female lead's standards."
And she gave Maou a watchability rate of 3 Stars ★★★. The lowest in the 10 dramas.
.............. ヽ(`Д´)ノヽ(`Д´)ノヽ(`Д´)ノ
Sigh.. this same reporter... She's always been biased ne?
From her past articles... Had already sensed she's Yamapi and Toma fan.
Besides using very old photos of Arashi and Kattun as compared to her very new updated photos for Yama, she almost certainly features Yama in most of her features, and writes fantastic stuff about him.
I didn't mind it then because I enjoy seeing fans care for their idols (therefore slight biasness is understandable).. but now....

Translations: (Note: my translations isn't perfect. But I tried putting the main points down)
Out of all the new season japanese dramas, the only one which was a remake is Toma's drama named "Maou". The other 2 dramas were original films and "Shibatora" is an adapted story from the manga featured in "weekly shounen magazine" in 2006.
When the korean version of "Maou" (otherwise known as "Mawang") was aired, due to unseen reasons, the ratings were not good. But the casts' have received good reviews on their acting skills. The Japanese version of "Maou" focuses on 2 male lead actors namely Ohno Satoshi and Ikuta Toma who have great popularity. However in local japanese fans opinions, Ohno's looks and popularity couldn't be compared to Toma's and he could not portray the same character as the popular korean idol, Joo Ji Hoon. As for the female actress, "kobayashi ryoko", other than her figure which is slimmer than the korean actress, her charisma isn't as good as the korean one
In the first week of maou's broadcast, its ratings won shibatora by 1%. (Maou's was 14%, and Shibatora's was 13%) And lets hope the new drama "33" which will be aired in August by Domoto Tsyoshi, will bring justice back for japanese dramas.
Personal Thoughts: Its really furious to know that they are writing so much negative comments about ohno!!!!!!!! And that the editor probably didn't even watch the drama to give such reviews!! As some of my friends and I could not accept such article, we wrote a complain letter to you weekly about their writing styles and contents. If everyone also feels unjustified on the way how they wrote, its good to write a letter to them too. Let them know the power of fangirls.

FUK;LKJASDFAS!!! That magazine article just pisses me off! They must not have a good eye for talent & good looks. Ohno is PLENTY talented & good looking & popular. GRRRRRR!!! I just wanna them. We should all send them complaints.
The critic basically said that the Korean cast of 'Maou' received great reviews on their acting skills. However, the Japanese cast includes two very popular lead actors, Ohno Satoshi and Ikuta Toma. My connection is acting up so I cannot read the article so I'm writing based on the summary above.
I do agree that Japanese cast is not as good as Korean one. That goes especially to the female lead. Not only her acting but her look also is too childlike. Joo Jihoon & Uhm Tae Woong are more experienced actors than Ohno & Ikuta (Jihoon may not have played many roles yet, but he was in acting major after all), so of course their skills are different from Ohno & Toma.
Korean dramas are different from Japanese dramas anyway, and this is just my opinion but I feel like many Korean dramas require a bit more from actors.
Obviously this lady is not very professional if she rates the drama based on actors looks or popularity. Now, as for acting skills, although in my personal opinion Ohno is a great actor, I haven't watched "Mawang" so I have no right to compare.
Anyway, I won't be sending complaints, this is just one biased (from what people say about her other articles) opinion, I'm sure it won't change anything and Oh-chan (even if he knew) probably doesn't give a damn either ;p
First thing I read after waking up from a nap is this.
Ah critics. >/
See, there are people out there who like to ocmpare things to other things they don't really have any knowledge about. In this case, I feel the reporter/critc never fully witnessed Ohno's acting ability -- which I have to say blows me away (not being biased, seriously). To be honest, they probably only based their opinion and rating on promotions/small CMs that show small bits and pieces of certain scenes.
And I heard/read somewhere that Singapore is currently in a Korean/Taiwan drama craze? Even if that is true, there really isn't a need to beat down on Japanese dramas or remakes like that. Very unprofessional.
A lot of people in the livejournal community feel the same, but try not to let one single trash talking critic who's abusing her power get to them. I'm sure Ohno wouldn't really care. He's gifted and he knows it. I'm sure everyone does.
I'm rambling/not making much sense. I blame it on the vaccine I got. Don't mind me.
-_- I understand that she has a write to criticize (since she's a critic) but as a critic, you should not give a biased review! It's not fair to the cast because everyone is working hard and it's not fair to the fans because we're trying to support them but reviews like this make it harder for us to get our message/love across to the actors and actresses >=O
Also, I think she doesn't see Ohno as popular because besides Arashi, he's more known for his butais and artwork - not really for dramas.

I've already sent mine. A LONG ONE, in fact.
I was telling them to do their research properly and if they want to comment on a drama, they should watch it before publishing such a stupid article.

Ah, perhaps an abuse of the right of expressing one's opinions.
There are really, writers like that. Somehow, some of them see and write things subjectively, rather than objectively, and i think that's very unfair and unprofessional. They just can't go bashing people like that, or they'll be sued for libel *__*
It's annoying as a fan, that such writers exist. A writer's influence is great, as many people are reading that magazine, so who won't get pissed, really. She based her opinions in a biased manner of comparing the Jdrama with the Korean drama. Heck, did she even try watching Maou?
Arg, this makes me really angry. I hope writers would be more professional.
i'm irked by the whole write-up but i'm not letting it get to me. i have so much faith in riida's abilities so after a few seconds i just brushed it off. you can't really please everyone. there will always be harsh and unforgiving criticisms. also, one is entitled to his or her own opinion and that is where it ends... just an opinion. as long as it doesn't malign a person, then it should be harmless.
