my movie rating: 5 stars out of 5
i think even if nino was not here, i would still love the movie (that is, if another exemplary actor would take the role). but the movie is kinda morbid, japanese soldiers committing suicide when they feel like there's no more hope. no wonder...
i hope they have changed their ways now (off topic?)
anyway, the movie is really realistic. i've watched the special features and i was so cracked up when i hear some people calling nino's name in the background... and he was good-looking in the premiere anyway!

i bought the 2-disk DVD set of iwo jima, but i hate the fact that the red carpet part wasn't in there *feels cheated* argh...
but in terms of the movie, i think it was a really great movie. i looked for reviews and it's nice to see that even the critiques found it wonderful... i also realized that his name does have some sort of a connection... Saigo literally means end, right? and he does live until the end. (haha, just a thought).
i wonder what could've happened if he died at some point in the film?
Liked this film. Actually had problem with it. Japanese audio was under Russian one, russian was too bad and far from correct translation and..voice of Nino .. it was impossible to listen as I wanted. Now want to see this without this terrible translation, because this film is great, Nino is great. And so much moments when I was like I can't move a finger. Love iwo jima.

I wanted to watch this movie because it was the companion piece to "Flags of Our Fathers." It turned out to be a bonus when heard that Nino was in it. His performance really was good. I found myself holding my breath at the number of times his character almost died. The movie gave me perspective to the thoughts of a Japanese soldier who never wanted to be one but he had a duty to serve his country; the torment he felt when he might break his promise to his unborn child that he will return to Japan, in the case of Saigo.
First when I saw the movie I actually didnt know that Nino was in it..
So when i saw his face I went
The movie was good, and Nino did a great job.. it was kinda fun because the friends I saw it with didnt understand why I went so pumped about Nino~ (my friends, they dont know Arashi or Japanese actors, musicians etc.)
Nino did a great job, and it was cool to see him having a "major" part in the movie and not only a small part..
everytime he was "close to get killed" I was like.. NINO RUN.. RUN~!!!
for me the movie gets a 5/5
and a BIG to Nino!!
I have a 2 disc version of the movie..and it include "interviews with main cast about their characters", "pressconference in Tokyo", "at the premier in Tokyo - redcarpet", "documentry about the movie and the actors", and "Images from the Frontlines: The Photography of Letters from Iwo Jima"
I just want to post this here. though its a bit old
Letters from Iwo Jima is Number 1 in the list of Time Magazine's Best Movies for 2006 (Jan 1, 2007 issue)
Cool! Nino's Letters From Iwo Jima movie is even recommended by
Time magazine, which has a lot of readers world-wide
here's their description:
Quote:
The 20,000-plus soldiers who defended the island against the ferocious American assault were ordered to die rather than surrender, and most did. Its a tragic epic that director Clint Eastwood personifies by focusing mainly on two stories: the dutiful, civilized general (Ken Watanabe) and a common soldier (Kazunari Ninomiya) who is clumsily, almost comically, determined to live. The dialogue is in Japanese, but this account of war madness - intense and compassionate- carries a universal and heart-breaking message.

Ohhh. I loved this movie. It's my all-time favorite movie and Nino did a really good job. I cried so much in this movie that it was close to pathetic, I think
There were so many parts that freaked me out, though. I'm thinking Ahh! Nino! Don't die!
I want to buy it someday...someday when I have enough money
I also think it's cool that now he is a world reknown actor ^.^
I haven't seen Letters t Iwa Jima yet but I really want to see it really badly so thats on my list for this year as for everything I'm going to watch!!!

I recommend that you watch it first. It's really great ^--^
i've downloaded it..
unfortunately d subs r so not correct..
n there is russian voice-over which is totally disturbing..
so...please can anyone tell me..
where i can download the ones with good quality n good subs?
onegaishimasu!!!
i just watched the movie for the second time since ive owned it, and i think i cried more this time than the first time (especially during the grenade suicide scene)...i remember commenting on a japanese social network forum that its sad to think that american soldiers were trained for survival so they could return home, while japanese soldiers were told to do their best at all costs b/c they would never see home again
nino is not my ichiban by far, but he IS my favorite actor of the group...he did an awesome job and i cant wait to see how his acting career develops...even if arashi breaks up in the future, i hope nino will continue as an entertainer thru acting
