Hidden Fortress (Kakushi toride no san akunin). A literal translation of the Japanese title is The Three Villains of the Hidden Fortress. (credits to wikipedia)

Akira Kurosawa's 1958 film "The Hidden Fortress" ("Kakushi Toride no San Akunin") is getting a remake, directed by special effects specialist Shinji Higuchi. This version will star Arashi member Jun Matsumoto in his first jidaigeki role, with a supporting cast that includes popular actress Masami Nagasawa.

The original film starred Toshiro Mifune as the defeated general Rokurota trying to secretly escort a princess and her wealth to safety. Along the way, he is joined in the journey by two peasants. In Higuchi's version, the story's protagonist is the peasant Takezo (played by Matsumoto), rather than the general.

Masami Nagasawa plays the role of the princess, while Hiroshi Abe plays Rokurota. According to Sports Hochi, comedian Daisuke Miyagawa is also part of the cast, and Kazuki Nakashima is handling the adaptation of the script.

The movie reportedly has a budget of 1.5 billion yen. Theatrical release set for May 10, 2008.

looks like a great production ne? and to give u an idea of just how good this film is going to be.. it was mentioned in wikipedia that George Lucas has acknowledged the influence of The Hidden Fortress on Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, particularly in the technique of telling the story from the points of view of the film's lowliest characters, C-3PO and R2-D2.

Sounds interesting. I would like to see how Jun portrays a peasant. It's also cool how George Lucas acknowledged the film. Hope someone subs this.

it had new trailer of it and it look very good

Being a huge Star Wars fan I had already seen the original before this was announced. So when I heard Jun was going to be in it, I freaked. I really want to see how he does. I'm so used to him playing a cool character that I think this variety will be good for him.

WOW, MATSUJUN looks hekaaa different. i heard of the movie, never really know what's it about. hahaha, i would like to see how matsujun acts out in this movie. trailer looks cool :DD, can't wait to watch it :DDD!

OMG...I am at a loss for words. I enjoy watching Kurosawa films. At first, I couldn't picture Matsujun as a peasant, seeing the dramas he was in. Upon seeing the trailers, I see him through appreciate eyes. It is nice to know that he is trying new roles; it shows his maturity.

I hope somebody subs this; it would definitely be in my video library.

The movie looks amazing. Though I can't stop picturing MatsuJun from his other movies/dramas in his role here, I'm pretty sure he's done a great job.

Matsujun looks really cool in the trailer... I thought it would be hard for me to see him as an peasant with the image of Douyouji I have of him, but he really made me forget the wealthy arrogant Tsukasa.

Going from a rich brat to a peasent really is a hard change O.o

He looks really good though, it took a second for it to actually click that it was Jun while I was watching the trailer...I saw him and was like "oh Jun...JUN?!!" Lol...anyway I am really looking forward to this movie ^^

I've seen scans of Jun in his character in the movie Hidden Fortress/ Last Princess. To me, it appeared like man really came from apes. hehehe

The photos where good, Jun still looked cool in it.

I saw the trailer on youtube, and I was freaking out. It looks so good. And Jun is in it which makes it even better! XD

I saw a photoshoot of him with the peasant look...and he totally pulled it off... His impression was really far from the tsukasa we know of him... I got excited when I read the plot... May 10th is just around the corner...haha...
