AIBAKALAND no Shukudai-kun, HAJIMARIMASU~~~~!!!!! Wohoo! clapping

I came up with this idea since the begining of August, but it took me over 2 months to post it! LOL

Just like how our beloved program "Arashi no Shukudai-kun" runs, Here I'll give the topic about the food and you guys will post out the dishes that match to the topic. I'll change the topic in every 2 weeks or monthly or as long as I think there're enough foods coming up for each topic.

Only that each dishes you post here should be:
- originally from your country or now become your country's national food. (Like Italy has pizza, Taiwan has Xiao Long Pao, Korea has Kimchi...)
- The food doesn't have to be the popular dishes, try to make it more interesting with the dishes other ppl might have never seen or expected before. or RARE
- Take the photo, or find the sample photo of the food,
- Make a description, like the ingredients, how to/when to/what to eat, blablabla
- price the dishes into Japanese YEN.

So let's see how the Shukudai around the world would be!!! Wohoo! Wohoo! Tanoshimi!! Sounds fun, isn't it?

===============================

So I'll give my example:
1st ep.'s topic is SALAD
post out your country's unique types of SALAD!!!

My shukudai:

Dish's name: PAPAYA Salad! (Som tam)
Origin country: Thailand

photo by me, for my Aunt's restaurant menu in Japan, looks yummy, right? XD

Description: Papaya Salad can be siad as Thai's National food, it's simple and healthy and very well-known among Thai restaurant at aboard. Basically there're 3 MAIN type of Papaya salad:
- Thai-style (Sweet and sour with small dried shrimps and peanuts),
- Crab-style (With pickled or raw small crab or sometimes sea crabs), and
- Isan- style (With the fish preserved with salt, it's more salty, stinky, and extremely yummy!LOL)

In the salad we usually put fresh Papaya, tomatoes, chili, Vigna sinensis, carrots, with Fish sauce, sugar, lime, tamarind juice, and fish preserved with salt(Pla Rah) for Isan-style. We use the special thai-style of grinding bowl to mix them in.

Papaya Salad is considered as one of the best Diet food. Since it has low calories, healthy and you can have the protein from the fish sauce and Pla Rah, and also vitamine from those fresh vegetables. To myself, I never get enough of eating Papaya Salad, especially when I want to loose my weight. whistle

The price: In thailand it cost about 50-70yen per one dish. but if you go to Japan( according to my aunt's res.) it'll cost apx.1000 yen since you need to import the papaya from Okinawa..and also with most of the ingredients.

But you can also try it at home if you want to!! smile Instead of Papaya, you can use the Carrots. Or you can try it in your city's Thai restaurant. big grin

Hmmm...I wonder if our boys have tried this or not. but it wasn't there when they came for JetStorm....

But for those who doesn't get used to Thai food, you can get sick easily from this!! So be careful! (I think this happens only in Thailand...LOL)

================================

You don't need to post only one dish per each topics, if you can come up with more different dishes in each topic, that would be nice! (Yes, I have some more other kinds of Salad!!! LOL)

So let's go yummy together!! drooling

COMMENTS are VERY welcome too!! whistle

Good questions! LOL
Whatever your country considering it as SALAD or with the name of Salad. There're also Cheese Salad too, right? Also my next Salad dish are not contianing with GREEN salad, either. As long as YOUR COUNTRY count it or name it as SALAD, then it's very fine! smile

Ohhhh, looks yummy!! Reminds me that I should bug my mum to make it for me when they come into season here...
Khmer papaya salad is slightly different I think from what I remember last time I was in Thailand. I think it has the best flavour when it's been left for a couple of hours or a day or so since the flavours sorta mature and mix together and become really really yummy!! XD

But yeah, people not used to this sort of food can get sick coz of the ingredients used sometimes. Coz you know, I love the smelly fermented fish (only know the Khmer word, not the english one ^^;) that they put in. With lots and lots of chilli drooling But if you've never eaten it, be prepared to get a stomach ache.

Too bad my country doesn't really have any national food unless you include pie floaters and Pavlova and neither of them are salads. whistle

so, now i will introduce the original bavarian Potatosalat ^^ (since it dont have to include green Salat ^^)

this is a pic i found in the inet, cos i dont have a option to took a pic by myself.

mostly this salat is served to roast pork.

there are some different ways to prepare this salat, this on the pic is whit cucumber, and vinegar dressing, you can also have potatosalat whit mayonaisedressing.

sorry, since i make Potatosalat by myself, i dont realy know how much this cost (even in €) but it is not realy expansiv ^^

That looks yummy indeed! I love vinegar with potatoes, I think I'll try that out! So you just have to boil the potatoes, add vinegar, cucumber and salad? What are those small green things, coriander?

This thread is very interesting. I really wanna see how dishes in each area are.

I really miss that papaya salad. I haven't had it since I came to Japan and I haven't been to any Thai restaurant here. I'll go to try it in Tokyo in Christmas break! I used to eat really spicy food but now I don't think I can have what I used to cos I can't find such taste in Japanese food. My tongue is getting weak.

That potato salad looks delicious but it's new to me. I've never seen it before. Can't imagine how would it be like when you put thevinegar dressing to the potato mayonaise. I'll try make it! LoL

An interesting thread... smile

Well this isn't really national food here in the Philippines but it goes really really well as a side dish for inihaw na baboy (grilled pork) or even grilled fish and white rice.

It's Kamatis at Itlog na Maalat or Tomato and Salted Egg salad

I got this off marketmanila.com, they say:
Chop up some ripe red tomatoes, add some chopped red egg (which are essentially boiled eggs marinated in heavily salted water for days and days…I have never made them but it’s supposed to be really easy and you can even avoid the wickedly red food coloring that is traditionally used to differentiate this from regular eggs) and sprinkle with some chopped green onion if you have it. I sometimes put a touch of vinegar to get the flavors mixing together and some freshly cracked black pepper.

This is rather cheap it may cost you less than 100 pesos or something around 217 yen.

Well here's my favorite "salad"

JELLYFISH SALAD.

It might sound nasty at first, but it's the best thing ever. It's a Chinese dish, you can get it at Chinese seafood restaurants. Sometimes they're even on the dimsum menu. And it's not that expensive, the cheapest ever was the same price as a plate of dimsum, I don't exactly remember. It's shredded jellyfish, served cold with sesame seed oil and sesame seeds.

Here's a photo courtesy of Google.

YUM
