Chapter 3
As Sora locked the door behind her, she suddenly felt jittery and lightheaded. Yesterday morning was still on her mind. Ohno and his crew only stayed until two or three o'clock and after, Ohno had some work to do with different variety shows. Sora enjoyed filling in for one day, she and Ohno had gotten along better than she had thought they would. Sora walked slowly down the street with her hands in her jacket pockets and her eyes to the ground. She couldn't help but to smile when she thought of all the things she and Ohno had found to have in common.
"Sora-chan? Are you jumping into something again?" the annoying voice was back again. Sora frowned and looked up from the street. Was she jumping into anything? No... it was one simple volunteer thing. Once they moved from the studio, she'd never see Ohno Satoshi again. Just that thought made her downhearted. Sora didn't meet many people she could connect with so easily.
"Miura-san!" Sora blinked a few times and focused what was in front of her. She was a few feet from the studio and Ohno was outside on the steps eating a hot breakfast. As Sora neared, Ohno stood up to greet her.
"Ohayo gozaimasu." Sora said shyly. The cold morning didn't feel quite so cold anymore.
"Do you always come this way?" Ohno asked curiously. Sora nodded with a smile and adjusted her bag on her shoulder.
"Hai, it's the quickest way, actually." Sora said with a nod. Both Ohno and Sora fell silent. Sora looked down the road awkwardly and Ohno picked at the food he was holding, a slight frown on his face.
"Ano... Miura-san... I'll be here all day..." Ohno started to say quietly. Sora looked over to him and tried to read his expression. "You could come by, if you want." he finished quickly and slowly met Sora's eyes. He swallowed nervously as Sora stared back at him. Sora couldn't help but to smile at his nervousness.
"I will, I'll stop by." Sora said definitely with a reassuring nod. Ohno's nervousness disappeared and was replaced with an excited grin.
"Great! Um, I'll be here then." Ohno said awkwardly, looking at the studio behind him. Sora nodded and laughed quietly, she adored how quirky he was. Ohno glanced over to Sora and smiled. Suddenly, Sora spotted the time on Ohno's watch and she grabbed his wrist to look closer. She had spent too much time talking with Ohno, she only had ten minutes to get to work.
"Ah! Gomen ne!" Sora said to Ohno as she rushed past him and down the street. Ohno looked after her with a startled expression. Turning back to his breakfast after a few moments, he secretly hoped that Sora would remember to stop by.
"Sora-chan, how was your day off?" Ami asked Sora curiously while leaning on the door to the photo room. Sora looked up from assembling a camera and smirked at her friend.
"You just want to talk about Ryo-kun's father, don't you? You know he's married... it's not good to get involved, Ami-chan." Sora said with a hint of disapproval. Ami rolled her eyes and walked closer to Sora, holding out her cell phone. Sora took it from her and looked at it closely, it was a picture that Ami had taken herself. Ami was kissing Ryo-kun father's cheek and he looked not in the least surprised by the action. Sora scowled and shoved the phone back to Ami.
"His name is Seiichi. And before you even ask, his wife is away most of the time... she's like a model or something." Ami said bitterly as she leaned against the door again. Sora sighed and faced Ami.
"You're going to get caught, sooner or later. Cheaters get bad karma, you know." Sora said quietly, walking past Ami and into the photo shoot room where a customer was waiting.
"Urusai!" Ami shot back angrily just as Sora shut the door behind her. Sora sighed at her coworker's stupidity. As much as she wanted to interfere, Sora decided to stay out it.
When five o'clock finally came around, Sora was the first to leave. She didn't want to be around Ami, since she was in a bad mood now, and she was excited to see Ohno again. She walked down the street, making her way through the crowd with a slight smile on her face. When she finally spotted the studio, Sora trotted across the street and hopped onto the sidewalk. There was something different though, no one was outside and the van was gone. She scowled a bit, wondering if she had been too late and Ohno had already left.
Suddenly a bit saddened, Sora slowly walked to the door and looked inside anyway. Surprisingly enough, Ohno was inside, sitting at a table at the back of the room and hunched over a drawing. Just seeing him made Sora happy and the uncontrollable smile came back to her face. At first she thought he was alone, until she saw the man she had previously spoken to yesterday. He spotted Sora and waved her in casually. Slowly, opening the door, Sora crept into the studio quietly.
"Ohno-san, I'll go outside for a smoke." the man announced as he walked towards Sora. Ohno looked up from the drawing and nodded, his eyes landing on a suddenly nervous Sora.
"Miura-san! You did come." Ohno said happily as he rose out of his seat. Sora moved out of the man's way as he passed through the door, leaving the two alone in the murky studio. She nodded quietly and remained standing by the door, becoming nervous under the stare of Ohno. He didn't mean to stare, and he knew she was probably uncomfortable... but he needed to see what shape her face was. Ohno smiled in embarrassment as he broke himself from his stare.
"Ah, I've got an extra chair..." Ohno started to say quietly as he pointed to the table. Sora flushed a bit and walked slowly across the studio to the chair.
"Wow... it's not even finished and it's beautiful." Sora said softly as she leaned over the sketch Ohno was working on. Ohno sat down again and nervously looked over the sketch. He didn't really want her to see it, it was embarrassing. He picked it up and set it in his lap, he was more nervous now and he could feel his neck starting to get hot. "Ohno-san, who's it of?" Sora asked curiously. She couldn't see his face behind his baseball cap brim, so she didn't know how nervous he was.
"Um... it's... of.. you." Ohno mumbled as he looked up. Sora met Ohno's eyes, her brow's raised in question. Ohno half smiled and laughed a bit.
"I can't seem to get the face right." he said quietly, looking back at the picture in his lap. Sora smiled a bit and leaned back in the chair, she could tell now that he was embarrassed.
"Well... since the drawing is me... I'm here." Sora said while making a strange gesture around her face. Ohno looked up, laughed quietly at her gesture and nodded in understanding. He put the sketch book back on the table, grabbed his pencil and raised his eyes to Sora. Sora sat as still as she could as she watched Ohno's eyes go from the paper to her face, multiple times.
She loved watching him, his expressions never got old or repetitive. It was hard not to smile when Sora was gazing at him, watching every move he made. For Ohno, drawing had never been so intimate.
